Beware of the Windows 8.1 upgrade

Microsoft promised those of us who took part in the Windows 8.1 preview that everything FSX/FS9 would be working in the formal release.

    Guess what? THEY LIED!

They've gotten around the issue by making sure that FSX and/or FS9 is actually removed from your HDD.
They are only physically retained if in a non-standard installation directory. They're also removed from the registry.
You'll also lose any Windows application that you manually installed.

That's because you upgraded from the preview build to the RTM build.

You can download the update for free from the Windows Store. You'll be able to keep your personal files, but you'll need to reinstall your apps. Make sure you have any original installation media that might be required for apps that were not installed from the Windows Store.

Yes, I think so too. I've just installed the Windows 8.1 update and FSX works as great as before

Upgraded to 8.1 successfully. Only problems I had with FSX and P3D was I had everything in 3-D colours but this was fixed by updating to the lasts beta NVidia drivers. I also had to restore some icons to my task bar but everything worked fine. Only thing I hated was the fac that after the install I had to use a password to log in to Windows. Also found a way around eliminating the password as well.

    Cheers
