I recognize that Mirage IVP anywhere. Currently have a few of them in the "restoration hangars" awaiting the re-built teams. (Have yet to re-install them in FS) Superb work as always, Zsolt.

    Fine repaint also!

One thing that can be said about French decorative markings--and I mean the various designs other than the roundels(emblems, sqn crests, escadron and escadrille emblems) --is that they are very artistic, highly refined, and at the same time unobtrusive and non-agressive... In other words, they do not jump at you but they please the eyes in the right way, much like the art of painting in France has always done....

It is a tradition that goes back to World War I, and many of the emblems from that era have survived and are proudly carried today.

He is saying that the French have always done a nice job on their special occasion paint schemes. It does sound a bit like a description of bottle of wine or an Impressionist painting. And I have to agree.

And that their squadron insignia (SPA badges) have origins going back to WWI units.

    Thanks Frank.

Frank, you would know all I mean about French designs, as is evident from your many repaints.

A couple of VERY IMPORTANT things I want to add: many of the French emblems are intentionally designed to be sexually suggestive. In the images I attach the emblem of SPA69, the Roussillon escadre, is an "undercover" depiction of the 69 sexual position. Look at it and you will see why. French aviation specialists told me that in Paris once and I saw what they meant too. The ears of the 'cat" are the legs of the woman, the 2 round balls (eyes of the animal) are evident, etc.... It takes imagination to invent such designs and the French certainly have it. The image with the rivets on the a/c skin is from an F-100 Super Sabre of the French Air Force.

The Jaguar a/c has that emblem.

The 3 birds are another example of refined designs.

I also think the various anniversary schemes are more blatant and less refined than the regular, normal schemes.

Sometimes the anniversary schemes are end of service schemes for units and/or an aircraft type so they let it all hang out, so to speak.

And thank you for that. I can't even see the cat anymore.
