Is there a Space Game that.......

    Hey all,

Is there a space game that has both flying (space craft) as well as walking around on decks of stations or planets? Anything like that come out, besides the online game Star Trek Online or STO?

    Hey Bill,
I have gotten back into STO, now that it is mostly free I have been enjoying trying out the Klingon side of things...different atmosphere. They did a really nice Qo'nos. A friend of mine is into EVE and really likes it, I haven't tried it yet, my 'gaming' budget is mostly dedicated to FS so havent really gotten into anything that requires a subscription fee.

If your in STO, and run into the USS Tejanahawk or the IKS Aomanko(depending which side I am playing ), drop in a hail

Right off the bat I can recommend Freelancer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freelancer_(video_game) It's my favorite space game ever. It's oldish, but very atmospheric still. And it has a peculiar "point and click" controlling of the spacecraft. And You can visit space stations and such.

Hi Bill, this is a link to the latest version of Mass Effect,ME3,while I don't care for the story line the graphics and CGE are amazing. This is basically a "walk thru" from character set up to starting the game so you can get an idea of what's available in it.

Many thanks guys for the input.

What I am looking for is something that uses joysticks just like flight simulator, but can walk and run and manuver around just like the Call of Duty series.

I remember the older Star Trek games, like the Voyager game. Brillant scenery, walking around. I 'think' you could fly to other ships, but I think I may be wrong.

I just do know of a game that did these precise things.... arrrgh...

I am a huge fan of the Mass effect series. One of the best out there. Mass effect 3 isn't perfect. It really shows how EA got their finger's in a really good pie. But over all, if your a person who likes Sci-fi and games, you really shouldn't pass up Mass Effect.

I have no clue if it can work with a joystick though. I play the games on an Xbox360.
Take my love, take my land / Take me where I cannot stand, I don't care, I'm still free / You can't take the sky from me.

Take me out to the black / Tell 'em I ain't comin' back.

Burn the land and boil the sea / You can't take the sky from me...

Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter has ability to switch between on-foot FPS combat to space craft dog fights seamlessly.

Orbiter 2012. Freeware platform, physics and ballistics heavy, air, ground and space craft, open source SDK, so a large freeware community. I've been hooked for years. http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/

    Many thanks guys.

I had never heard of Mace Griffin! Where has that been??

The last time I was getting the latest Orbiter files, the new 2010, about 4 months ago, I got a virus attack at that website. It hit me hard. I had to reformat a new HD as the virus couldnt be removed. It was buried in an immovable memory location. Try as I may, it didnt leave. It was on the large planet textures page. I told the big guy at Orbiter about it, but he said all was fine. I would love to get it running again with the latest files. Looks brilliant.

You can walk around in that! I forgot! Goodness.....

Freelancer was a great game! Another personal fav of mine was Bridge Commander, with all of the online mods it was one of the coolest Star Trek games.. Recreating the battle between the Reliant and the Enterprise was always cool in that game.. Even had the ability to add in your own music, so I added the battle music from the movie.. Never have been able to reinstall the game again though.

I found this not to long ago, http://en.spaceengine.org/
No spaceships but it is a pretty cool little program.

[New!] Controlable spaceships. (from their website).

Thanks for the HU! Looking forward to trying this out on the weekend.

    Klingon Side of things
    IKS Aomanko
B'rel class Bird Of Prey...must have added some liquid Schwartz to the engines for this afterburner effect LOL

Through the create an alien feature, I created an Andorian (of course) to use with the Klingon side...figured her backstory was like Worf's but on the Klingon side.
On the bridge with Gorn first officer

    Engineering

On Qo'nos in front of the great hall....they really did an excellent job creating the right ambient atmosphere for a Klingon city.

    Klingon Academy

Bajor...again, great atmosphere here...this place actually has a day/night lighting cycle that is really nice.

Finally at DS9 having a drink with Morn...

Pretty good stuff for a 'free' game....some of the 'extra' stuff they charge you for, but you can still effectively play the game and see the sights for free.
    Cheers
