Icon17 Stearman "Duster" by Bob Sanderson

I recently downloaded the Stearman "Duster" package as well as the Upgrade pack by Robert Sanderson. The pack contains 2 different models, one, a 1955 "Duster" and the other, a 1965 "Sprayer" version of the Stearman biplane. While everything is just fine with the '55 bird, for some reason, the panel in the '65 plane does not display the gauges. I checked the 'cab' file and made sure the name matched the one listed in the panel.cfg file for the 1965 version. I checked for spelling errors, I tried putting the cab file for the '65 model into the panel for the '65 model, as well as putting the cab file in the FS9 Gauges folder. No gauges. I then tried downloading the whole maghilla from a different site, the end result was the same. The '55 Stearman works beautifully with the addon scenery, as well as any airport you want to fly out of. The '65 Stearman has no gauges on the panel, but otherwise functions as it should, Has anyone else ever run into this issue before?

    Hi BB,

Seems like the 65 Stearman has all the gauges in the overhead box attached to the wing, and not in the panel.
A bit weird and hard to read I admit, but that's the way it seems to have to been. :-)

Where are these found? I looked on flightsim.com and Avsim and they aren't on either site?

    UPDATE: Found it on Simviation

I love this bird... my take on it, flown in FSX.

EDIT: Just saw your post... have fun... great aircraft!

Yea, a bit unorthodox to be sure. One way to get by that would be to simply alias the 1965 panel to the "55 version.

    [Fltsim]
    Alias=\Stearman 75 450 hp 1966\panel

    rename the current 1965 panel.cfg as old_panel.cfg
make a new panel folder. Inside that folder, using notepad, include the alias text above. When you reload the 1965 version, it should load with the panel you have for the 1955 version.

NOPE: that only changes the 2D. Apparently the VC is unaffected.

Thanks, everyone. Actually the gauge layout for the '55 Stearman's panel fits the bitmap for the '65 Stearman fairly well. I just re-named the panel.bmp and copied the panel.cfg. Seems that there are alot more "gauge files" in the compressed zip for the Stearman 75 ('65 Model) than just the gauges in the overhead box that's attached to the wing. But I have been wrong before.

BTW TuFun, those are really nice shots... did you do the repaint on the Stearman '55? I have always liked the early Army Air Corps roundels on Biplanes. I have Dave Eckert's excellent Stearman PT-17 and there are loads of repaints out there for that plane in Army Air Corps livery as well as Civilian.

Yes it is, but it was like that in real life too:

I don't know why it was done, to fit a larger hopper maybe? Anyway Sanderson's duster is one of my all time favorite birds, though quite a frame hit in FSX.

Well then, I reckon that's the reason the model came that way. But seriously... who could look at a panel dashboard with no gauges on it?

I went back in and set up the '65 Sprayer as it originally was, but kept the gauges in the '65 Clean model. Thanks for "Clearing the Air", Bushpilot....

I've been flying this Stearman for a couple months, but don't recognize this texture. Is it found somewhere?

BTW - the link is to the original package, so where might one find the update?

    Thanks

This package includes a scenery an ag-operations hangar, and dirt airstrip. Also included in this download are two all-new more accurate aircraft models with additional features and animations. The original scenery is also patched and improved. This update is a stand-alone installation that will not affect the original aircraft.

    Update is included.

Aircraft repaint was experimental, never published. TF

The gauges were up there because that's where the pilot spent 60-70% of his veiwing when working, as he was performing his turns and line ups for the pass. Also, as you can tell from the "mess" in the photo, it kept them out of the nasty stuff.

Makes sense to me... Initially I thought maybe something was wrong with the cab file for the gauges. One only knows just how much of the "nasty stuff" the pilot was exposed to while flying that plane... full of "bug-juice" lol!
