    floatplanes on the water?

    I have several float planes including the new Rufe ,but even though where I start from (the floatplane bases that come with the Kingfisher)has 0 as the altitude they all start in the air.
    Is there a way I can get them to start on the water?
    I have already changed the thrust and power scaler in the aircraft config to 1.1 so I can take off from the water and by using slew can somtimes get them down on the water but this is a bit tedious, so for now I have to land on the water then either taxi back to base or slew the plane back. Any ideas?

    My Rufe and Wildcatfish have landing gear. It may have somthing do do with that.

    Also what Kingfisher has floatplane bases with it? If you could post a link to it so I could test this for my self it would be nice.

    Guess you can't

    Well OKWHEAT gave the link which I forgot about since it's been so long, but I guess only the Kingfisher will start on the water next to the Seabases and your Rufe will start on land with the wheels as long as you don't slew over to the island part of the Seabase's ,then you don't have wheels and have to slew into the water to take off.
    So with the Rufe you either have to land on the water or slew down to the water, or take off from a landbase.
    It's still a great plane and thanks for making it.

    To get flaotplanes to takeoff from the water you need to hand edit the mission file. Set the Alt to +0 at the first waypoint.

    Here's few pic of PBYs taking off.

    Here if the fix for float planes that do not have gear so that they will work at seabases. Go to static_cg_height= and make it larger. If it says static_cg_height= 5.75 make it static_cg_height= 6.75. Making it larger should fix them.

    As for amphibian aircraft or those that have gear Talon's way its the way to go.

    Hi hurricane3,

    Just create a airbase and add it to you "airbases.dat" file (found in the INFO folder).
    Just replace the [runway xxx and id xxxx with the next in line numbers.
    Make sure you do not delete the EOF marker.
    Then you can create a mission and take of from the water.

    Here is an example.

    [runway.XXX]
    id=XXXX
    name=Peleliu Seaplane
    base_lat=N6 56.71
    base_lon=E134 13.54
    base_alt=0
    heading=135
    allegiance=0
    units_across=2
    takeoff_start_pos=-450,0
    takeoff_stop_pos=1600,200
    landing_start_pos=5000,350
    landing_touchdown_pos=500,0
    landing_stop_pos=-250,0

    Also some of Maskriders add-on airbases have water runways.

    Hope this helps,

    Thanks to all that replyed ,but thats a little more than I can handel,so I'll just use land bases or slew for the Rufe.

    Indeed they do. Any MR airfield that abuts onto water- which is nearly all of them- has numerous water start-points/runways for float planes. Access them thru the "Advanced Go To" -> "Scenery from FS95 and before " menu.

    PS: There are many float planes that will start just fine in the water- without sinking/re-spawning in the air. Many time its is the landing gear- with landing gear down the plane fills with water and then sinks and re-spawns in the air. With others it has something to do with the plane "dropping" into the water at start-up- damaging itself and re-spawning. There are however quite a few floaters that start up just fine 95% of the time in the water. Its pretty unpredictable though.

    sinking

    I tried to substitute the Rufe and PBY's for the Kngfisher which starts just fine on water but they just sink and blow up without respawning.
