Interesting comments. I for one whilst very much appreciating the hard work and many hours that go into modding this sim, do not have a great interest in the Pacific war and what little sim-time I do have I like to work on BoB which is my own area of interest. But perhaps a few more encouraging posts from me and other folks would not go amiss so I for one apologise for my laziness.

However, I have learned over the years that you must do work such as this primarily for yourself and your own interests and not for a wider audience - that's just a bonus if you can share what you've done. I spent many years and countless hours builidng a model railway in our shed and no one except me ever saw it, there's no reason why this hobby should be any different.

Just my tuppence worth. I think you're all fine chaps for doing what you do.

CFS 3 is dying slowly, number of downloawds is decreasing day after day while CFS 2 community seems to be much more active. These are facts.

It takes a lot of time to build something. As an exemple, for historical mission: historical research (hours and hours of reading), building the mission itself (finding correct aircraft, skin, vehicule, gun or anything other object, placing everything...), making the briefing-debriefing sections, losing a huge amount of time with damned spawns scripts, testings... sometimes, a mission that seems to be simple to build can be very time consuming to setup just a detail, this is the case I have at the moment with a particular mission.

I first build them for myself using what others have released, it would never have been possible to do this with CFS 3 stock. So, I release these missions to the community (which takes time because I have to adapt missions as I don't necessary use the same aircrafts but also, making the readme file, the screen shot...), I don't care if there is 1 or 100 downloads because I have them on my HS.

All I know is that I appreciate all the work that goes into CFS3. The terrain builders, mission builders, modlers all of you! Just the few mission sets I have made makes me more aware of what is involved and more appreciative of the time involved.

    Thanks to ALL!

I'd say Pat Pattle's got it about right and I think sometimes we all lose perspective.

Talon: Your work is always appreciated for its thoroughness and accuracy, but that isn't any reason to belittle the work of others. I hope you will see your way clear to continue your valuable contributions. I am not always as quick to say so as perhaps I should be.

I couldn't wait to download Rising Sun, and I have been waiting for the AVG to be brought forward ever since. That is a whole little world in itself. I suspect that the reason for a slow response to it is the slow development of it. Now don't get me wrong: I have dabbled in mission creation and do have a sense of the enormous amount of work it takes to get them right. The Rising Sun addon is a giant undertaking, and if it were a model railroad, it would have to encompass the entire eastern portion of the US circa 1940! That's a lot of trackwork...

So, I hope cfs3 isn't dying for lack of interest, and that the folks who are able to make it better for the rest of us will continue to do so.

And it is true: It's summer and I spend a lot of time on our sailboat (this year involves more messing about it seems as opposed to sailing).

Perhaps a breather for all might help.

Actually CFS2 is slowly dying too.The main thing keeping it alive is the conversion of planes from FS9. There are only a few people that make missions and campaigns for it. Some new scenery for Truk has been made but other than that nothing much has been done.

Kelly-As for CFS3 mission building, the CFS3 mission builder is the worst I've worked with. The CFS2 mission builder is probably the best and IL2 next.

Pat I have your BoB also and fly some of my missions in it.BoB is the only type of missions I enjoy in ETO. Even tjough I did alot of missions for the ETO Expansian I have never flown them since.

Now CFS3 has always been for the European theater and this community is more ETO based because of that. I think MAW is second on most peoples list of areas to fly and the PTO/RS theaters are last except for a few people. That's just the way it is.

This community supported Maw Team for years before it came out and you supported ETO. Now it's time to support Rising Sun.Remember also there is only 1 Man doing the scenery work for RS and it would be nice to show him more encouragement. Like he said in an earlier post he may just finish Sino because of lack of interest. Who gets the blame if that happens? Think about it.

I think the slow down has much to do with it being summer.
There is always a slow down in the summer for the sims..
many are very busy with Real life this time of year..

I do believe that the Rising Sun once completed will be a BIG HIT!!

And the honor due to the RS Team for this effort is GREAT, to say the least..

As they say I will be here until they turn out the lights..

Wrong Al, I've supported every project except Korean War for many reasons (first of them is that it was released before I went to CFS 3) and I have made several mission packs for PTO and RS.
The reason why I don't build much missions for PTO and RS is that you've done some historical ones, I don't see why I would have started a Pearl Harbour or AVG work involving many, many hours of researches. Missions I've made cover aspects you are not working on at the moment (RAF in early days of the war in CBI for exemple) simply because it is not possible to do everything and your main interest is US Navy.

I have also made historical + What If based on historical context missions to cover the Wake Island invasion for the release of Rising Sun.

As I wrote before, I have projects for PTO/RS and especially a pack for the Rufe as I have collected detailed historical informations.

I have done my best to support PTO and RS but my main interest is ETO and especially Bay of Biscay/Atlantic War/D-Day because I am from Lorient, a city that suffered heavy causulties during the war, including my family so of course, I'm more curious to learn things about this subject.

I also really enjoy MAW because appart from Malta and Africa Korps, I didn't knew much about this theater before, I have lurn so much (early period of the war in the desert before arrival of German forces, Regia Aeronautica in North Africa, Yugoslavian air force in may 1941...).

    LZ,

My main interests in Rising Sun are AVG,PNG ( RAAF and USAAF ) and the CATF in China.I had given thought to doing the RAAF 76th Squadron at Milne Bay also. About the only USN stuff I've worked on is Coral Sea and the attacks on Rabaul. The Rabaul missions I need the Helldiver to finish them.

I still have all my research material from when I did these missions for CFS2.
