Penske has let AJ go, hope he can get his chance to race again, but its up to him now.

    Prior to the firing,
I seem to recall Kyle Petty saying a return to IndyCar was AJ's best shot....In retrospect, Penske appeared to hang on to Al Jr much longer....

    Hey All,

I was right as I said long ago - Penske shoulda gone with Brian Vickers. Much better chance of winning and avoiding all this. Background matters.

Open wheel probably is A J's best shot.

    No, you were not right.
Until Brian Vickers drives for Penske, all you have is a perspective.

A different perspective is for example that Penske should have picked up Landon Cassill....

    Addendum:
I should add that if Vickers is picked up by Penske, it wouldn't be surprising at all....Also of note, Stewart-Haas has yet to renew Ryan Newman's contract so here is another drive in contention for the seat....

It's arguable that Vickers is faster than Newman but I personally think Newman could work better with Keselowski than Vickers...

    Hey All,

Ryan would be an outstanding choice as well. I was referring to an earlier thread which I did not dig up. Point is either Brian or Ryan would be good as they are both stock car racers.

It appears he will have a ride.

Shank wants Allmendinger in Grand-Am car: What's next for AJ Allmendinger? During a short telephone interview with FOXSports.com on Wednesday, Allmendinger expressed regret as well as gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans, which he acknowledged "helped me get through all of this." He said he has met with the administrator for NASCAR's Road to Recovery program and was given a "road map" to follow throughout the process. Team owner Michael Shank, who campaigns in the NASCAR Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and won the Rolex 24 with Allmendinger behind the wheel at Daytona International Speedway on Jan. 29, said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that he would field a car for the driver once he satisfies the sanctioning body's requirements for reinstatement. "He has to go through the Road to Recovery - which we all accept and we all agree with," Shank said. "That process, I'm told, can take anywhere from a month to three months. We'll be testing in Daytona in October and November with the Daytona prototype and some new stuff we have from Ford Racing coming. If that's the case, as soon as NASCAR says it's been satisfied, we'll get him back in."(Fox Sports)(8-3-2012)

Word on the IndyCar side of the house is that Foyt wants him...Personally, I didn't care for how he left CART so I'm agnostic here....

Allmendinger says he tested positive due to an ADHD drug.
Metaphetamine is used in some ADHD drugs...

Allmendinger said in an interview with ESPN that he took Adderall a couple of days before the race at Kentucky Speedway on June 30 because he was tired. He does not have ADHD or a prescription for the drug.

He says a friend gave him the pill and said it was a workout supplement that would give him energy.
So he does not have ADHD, but he took a prescription drug given to him by a friend because he was feeling tired? That's being a real bonehead. I hope he has learned his lesson.

By the way, why did it take so long for him to confess as to what he took? My tinfoil hat is making me think he actually took an illegal drug and needed a couple of weeks to come up with a plausible story.

Not only is taking other people's prescription medication dumb, it's also dangerous.....
