With changing o/s scripts ie windows 7 and soon windows 8 it will eventully spell the end of our xp games. I still think it will be many years before the final end but not to many.

xp support going the way of the dodo is probably inevitable,

Give him a slap. Many of these "old" flight sims had more involvement than their up to date fancy graphic ones. I think particularly of -
    Falcon 3 by Microprose
Tornado by errrr Digital Integration (poossibly)
    EF2000 by errr give up
    Falcon 4
    Apache Longbow
    EECH
    EAW
    WWII Fighters.

Hopefully Windows 8 will have a decent backwards functioning capability.

I'm gonna drag out my MiG Alley and see if this works on W7 - having my doubts but what the heck!

    Hi,

Windows 8? Hopefully they can do the best of both worlds...

Works for me... But i've done this in reverse - installed XP first, followed by Win 7.

I am happy to report CFS2 runs perfectly on Windows 8 release preview.
I customized the install into my user folder rather than allowing a default install into Program Files, but that is become usual practice in Win 7 anyway.
I won't bother you with any gory details about Windows 8, it seems much the same as 7 under the hood, it has a new front end "Start Button" that is geared for use on tablets, it is heavily linked into windows live. The kids will love it, I don't think I will bother to keep it, its not an OS for older machines.

Experienced dual booters will not have any difficulty setting it up to their liking.

Those of you with software that wont run on Win7 64bit, don't need to mess around trying to dual boot with XP you can run your old XP installer on a virtual machine inside Win7, if you don't have the microsoft virtual machine Oracle's Virtual Box is freeware.

Thanks Simonu - did you notice any problems with 1024 X 768 bitmaps in cockpit side or rear views (as is a problem with Windows 7)?

I thought I'd update the Mig Alley thing - no go I'm afraid. Installed OK under Compatability mode but trying to run it at all ended in failure. It may be possible but I just don't have the time. Back to the dusty shelf. Pity.

KD, you are talking about bitmaps to fake internal views in cockpit view mode when the plane model doesn't show a virtual cockpit? I'm sorry, I didn't know there was a problem, tell me more about it, I suspect it's the bitmap format not Win7
All I did in win 8 is run a default install but not to the default location.
I have know redone Win 8 install with x64 version, Shall test runing CFS2 from networked drive, and drag n drop install of custom CFS2 install.

    Simonu,

Have a look at this thread started by Morton in March http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...istance-needed!

This appears to be the only problem with CFS 2 using Win7.

    KD
