    Prometheus

Saw Ridley Scott's Prometheus today. There's very little I can say about it without giving away spoilers. I will say that if you liked the original 1979 Alien, you'll probably like this as well. I don't understand why the studio went to such lengths to say this wasn't an Alien prequel when nerds could clearly see from the trailers that it was. If that weren't enough, the last scene of the film leaves no doubt whatsoever. The way the film ended leaves enough unanswered questions for a sequel, which I fully expect if enough people see this outing to make the numbers right. This film is expensive, and looks it. IMO it's a supremely well crafted SF/Horror excercise. The dialogue seems completely natural in the mouths of the actors; the complete opposite of the Star Wars prequels and their taboo against contractions. It's not for everyone, and it requires a fair amount of concentration on the part of the viewer so I do NOT expect it to be a Summer blockbuster on the level of The Avengers, which I also enjoyed, but stimulated an entirely different area of my brain. It'll make money, but it won't bust any blocks. Also, the whole time I was watching this I was thinking: whoever models this spaceship for Orbiter will have his work cut out for him.

One last thing: DO NOT BRING A PREGNANT WOMAN TO THIS MOVIE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

Dude! I watched a fullscreen HD trailer for this movie today and I thought OMG! when I saw how visually stunning all the effects, visuals, details in the ships and props, etc. were. I gotta see this one. I can see getting the DVD when it is released just so I can make some screenshots to use a desktop backgrounds.

Off to see it in a couple hours....Let you know what I think.

I forgot to mention yesterday, this movie owes a very great deal to 2001: A Space Odyssey. Nerds will know what I mean when they see it. I also found parts reminiscent of a certain Star Trek: TNG episode. I won't say which one. Someone in charge of making this film is a deep SF fan. I kept seeing various homages. Don't want to post spoilers until more people have seen it.

Well, I must stay I enjoyed it. Good story line, not too taken with special effects (in other words, they were used to support the story, rather than the other way around), left plenty of questions for debated.

Not as terrifying as the Alien movie, but you know coming into this flick that something BAD is going to happen....no two ways around it.

Ridley Scott does not disappoint here.

I watched the trailer. I guess that the vision of our roots, in the mind of Ridley Scott, is cruel and agressive... Pessimist vision of ancient civilizations... Is the movie different ?

The reality of past is sometimes very badly understood, but here is a fascinating attempt, much more fascinating than fiction :

However I'm a fan of the Scott brothers...

I came away from it with more questions than answers but I think that was the idea. The alien landscape was amazing. At least we start to learn more about the "space jockeys".

Somewhat formulaic but a good sci-fi film.

Thank you for that. Some people are not so considerate.

I will say that an alternate title for this movie could be "Dude, don't touch that!"......
