    Painting SOS!

Guys I surrender. I'm trying to align the 2 vertical lines (actually the whole length of a nacell with a dozen or so verticle panel lines) seen the attached pic.

I cannot figure out how to over come this. If it wasn't in a prominent location I wouldn't worry with it but this is just a piece of the problem. It runs the whole width of the texture.

If I adjust one pixel left or right it misses the mark completely to the other side. For instance, if I move the bottom vertical lines in the example pic one pixel to the left they will move completely past alignment to the left. I've tried blurring the lines but it looks obvious and awful.

I'm using PSP 9. The texture size is 2048x2048 and the top half of the lines on are on the top object map and the bottom half of the lines is on the side object map and both objects are on the same 2048x2048 texture "sheet".

Any and all "constructive" suggestions are welcome. Believe me, I've already explored a lot of the non-constructive ones!

    Thanks, y'all.

Duckie, I'm no expert but the only thing I can think of is to double the image size, make your 1 pixel move then resize to original.

That way you should be only moving half a pixel...I think...
It may be worth a try anyway.

Duckie you should be able to create straight lines or pixel shapes of any angles by putting down the brush at a starting point the goto another point and hold down the shift key. bear in mind any pattern is subject to how the texture mapping is laid out which you can't control. You may have to make repeat adjustment to have it come out. Some models can near be impossible to have a sharp straight line when the texture is applied.

Consider changing line width (in pixels); then do each side.

Thanks Nigel. I'll give that a try

Thanks Rick. Straight lines are't the issue. Connecting those straight lines that seem to be a half pixel off IS! The lines at issue are vertical panel lines of a nacelle. The top set are mapped to the nacelle top, the bottom set is mapped to the nacelle side. These 2 objects share the same texture, "nacelle-r", but are on 2 different locations on the texture, hence the need to line them up.

Hopefully I didn't miss your point. Thanks very much for the response.

I think I tried that without success but I've tried so much stuff I don't remember if I did or not. Will revisit that to verify though.

    Thanks

What Ive done when Ive got weird texture mapping is set up a grid pattern of different color lines across the whole texture and see how they pattern out and change width/ shape on the model.

Look for an option in PSP (sorry, PS user) to turn Anti-alias (or pixels shading/smoothing) off, PS smoothes pixels to soften edges, sometimes resulting in unwanted results,. Probably not what you need, but worth a try?

Not quite sure whether I might be able to help...
Is the effect you are trying to achieve with panel lines something like this herebelow???
I can show how to work with vector lines, shadings, etc. to achieve fine panel
lines that can be aligned whichever way you want...

... and... Duckie, did you try to open PSP with DXTBMP ? ( does not work with windows 64bit )

Maybe the solution is to save with original format...

    A little more info...

    1. Although my paint app is PSP 9 I work all my textures in PSD format with no problems.
    2. I use DXTbmp as my compression and alpha editor. I use no mips.
    3. I do my work mostly in 2048x2048 at 500pix/inch because it gives me, IMO, better ability to produce finer detail and better lettering. Layers are then merged, reduced to 1024x1024, saved as bmps, and converted to 32 bit 888 in DXTbmp. In that order. Never had a problem with this method.

Nigel: Tried your suggestion. Unfortunately, no joy.

Jamie: PSP 9 uses anti aliasing and I've tried it both ways, on and off, with no change.

gaucho_59 and SOLOBO: See the attached pics

Thank you all so much for your responses and suggestions. One of the things I love about this place.

Duckie, when this problem occurs I normally make the connection point of the lines a bit less visible (smudge) and make a second blurred hardly visible layer. This effect suggests the line continues.

Sounds to me like a mapping "issue" that simply is off by less than what you can compensate for in the paint process. I don't think there is anything you can do on your end other than trying to shift both lines forward or backward and hope that there is a sweet spot where they do line up better.

    Cheers

DXTBMP works just like it always has for me with Windows XP 64 bit. I can't say as I did anything different when I installed it on this comp. Even used the old install program that I used on my old 32 bit machine.
