low poly object for night bombing

In have been thinking for a long time about night bombing missions, and knowing a lot of effects going off at once slows the computer down, so I made a one poly exploding gmax model invisable until the object explodes. They are very bright at night and shows up quite well during the other times. I have not gave the object a good name at the moment. Let me know what you think.

ID:	66433Thanks Allen for you input. I have the colouring sorted, The different colours would make good pathfinding objects.

ID:	66528Another attempt for fires after bombing. Each fire is a gsl exploding lowpoly object, the searchlight is also gsl and when it is hit no more searchlight also used as a flack gun in missions. The objects are being made for night time bombing missions only as you have to have large flatened areas.
I will now have to learn how to make missions.
    Hope you will like.RJ

    Hello RJ

Looking good, but is it possible to have say 3 different sizes with slightly different colouring for each - idea being to give that visual look of multiple fires of different structures on fire with different intensities, or is that making things too complicated ??????

In my ETOs install I have added through the scenery folders some scenery objects that are night fires like the one you show (pretty good by the way) and searchlight. The first can be seen during night missions and (if you look at the right spot within the correct distance) daylight missions in 9 cities and or ports. The second can be seen only during the night for 47 cities. I havenīt noticed any drop in framerates, but also I havenīt made a test.
I tell you because, may be, you havenīt noticed there are some objects already done. Iīm in my notebbok so I donīt have the source right now. They are all bgl. And they do not need any flattening switch added.

I admire your capacity to do this things and I envy the time you have to make them!!

    Cheers, Discus

    Hi Discus,
I know the files you are talking about. They gave me this idea, these objects are ordinary scenery, the ones under construction are gsl exploding objects. If you hit the scearch lights they will explode and go out and can be used as a flack gun.
The fires are invisable untill they are hit by a bomb.
I had to code tha asm file for the objects to show up bright.
By flatenning a large area makes placing the objects in mission builder easier and as you will be doing night missions to have flatter land is not a problem.

Who said can't have night textures in gsl scenery. The two large fires are just two extra large exploding objects. The search lights are animated gsl exploding objects.
The coloured fires are pathfinding flares. Still a lot of work to do. Hope you like it.

    Hi all,
I think it is possible to change part of most .sca code to make objects bright at night ie default craters.
Will have to change textures as well. I am a little disapointed with the response to this thread as the possiblitys are endless. lighting in hangers, exploding lighthouse lights, temporary fires for runway markers for soe (Special Operations Executive).

    Hi RJ,
This is superb! Yes, the possibilities are great. I did the 'Kammhuber line and fires' Discus mentions, which are basic, but effective, so this is the 'professional' version with a lot more options!

Don't worry about the lack of enthusiasm, people ARE watching and waiting, sometimes it just takes a while to catch on.....

Also post this on the Fs2004 forum, and may I suggest, design the scenery for both CFS2 and Fs2004, it will be appreciated.

Night air-warfare being a passion of mine, I'm certainly looking forward to this scenery.

    Cheers

    Hi RJ,

You're doing a great job as usual - the fires and flares look great. Have you seen the phosphorus fires by Nanni used in the Stettin mission by Jagdflieger?

Another night effect which is missing in CFS 2 is the Drem lighting - the approach lighting used at RAF airfields.

Don`t worry we are watching and letting you lead the way.One thing I am thinking are lighted cities at night. We had them at one time but the problem was the lights could be seen during the day and floated over the city. They did however look good at night.

One thing that we need are low poly count objects for CFS2 and that includes buildings people in uniform and non uniform as well as low count autos military and non military.

I don`t know how to do this type of work but I am sure glad you do.

You have to understand the CFS2 AI inorder to command them.

Why walk when you can ride

It is not what CFS2 is doing but what it looks like it is doing that counts

Funny how these things all seem to surface in the collective conciousness, an addon I made some time ago that has been just been uploaded to the new library contains an object that may pass for Drem lighting, http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=17&linkid=11393

    edit.
The runway lights come on all of a sudden and I'm not sure if it is the proximity code is working or just the mission object popping into existence in the usual fashion. The lights don't show during the day and they don't float, but they do show through the stock plane flat panels! Anyhow I included the source code in this pack so feel free to play with it and make it better.
