SOH Warbird Archive FSX & FS9 Files Move Completed

SOH needs to copy the files from the old Warbirds Archive library system to the new library system. This is necessary because the old library system is not compatible with the new forum software and it lacks the security features of today's systems. This archive is being eliminated in August so we have 60 days to move the files or lose them forever.

We need volunteers to help move these files.

This will involve the FSX files only.

A video has been created to show the process of capturing data and pictures, downloading, and then uploading the files to the new library. Milton Shupe created the video to show you how to move files quickly and easily. The video can be found here :Download

Just to give you a sense of the effort:

There are 1335 files in the FSX archives.
If we have enough volunteers to help move files over 60 days, we can get through this easily enough. You can move 15 files in about 75 minutes on average depending on your download speeds and file sizes.

We will manage and coordinate moves by the page numbers in the archives.
There are 15 files per page and 89 pages. (We must display the pages at 15 entries per page to coordinate the effort.)

We need volunteers to sign up to move these page lots.

Before you decide, you might watch the video to get a sense of the process.

This video demonstrates a process I tested on 100 files to quickly and efficiently capture the data, download the files and pictures, and upload them to the new library system. I hope this helps.

If you will please just post that you would like to help, I will assign you a page lot.
Once that is done, you are free to begin the moves.

Please make sure to read this and participate in some form...the admins and mods can't do it all themselves, we only have two months...so all hands on deck! I'm not going to let up on this, so if you want to shut me up, you know what to do.

If I'm spending all my time moderating and sorting files, I won't be pestering you, so there's a double incentive.

Count on me for help too. But only a little question: in the video, it appears that is possible to alter the date and the "uploader" field in the "Upload addon" page. I tried here and these two fields are already filled up with no option to clear it and write again:

We were hoping that we could get those rights to you for this project but that has not happened.

Therefore, we request that you simply copy paste the original submitters name and date/time into the bottom of the description.
Using your name and current date/time is okay for this project.

Ok we need to get started, I am compiling the list of duties right now and will PM our workers with their numbers to download and then upload to the new library. Thanks to those who volunteered. If you wish to be added to the work force, just send me a PM or message here. Thanks to all.

Ok, the workers have their page numbers and are working. We will get as many as possible transferred. If we don't make it before they are lost, we can say we did the best we could. Thanks again.

There are some files that produce erros during downloading fase. For example:
Errors:
File: texture.RCAFBlack.zipx
Server Error
404 - File or directory not found.
The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

I´m generating a report to send you later, but i think it´s interesting to create a procedure for this cases.

I've started but now I'm stuck:

When uploading I can't enter the Zip File Name + the Image (practically all informations of the second part of the Upload Form).
What's wrong ?
I'm running W7 64K

italoc, Not sure why your problem. Basically I download the new file to a special folder and save the picture in the same folder. When asked about the new upload I go to that folder and select the picture and zip for upload. Seem to work fine here. Be sure to see the video as it explains this very well. Let me know if you figure it out. Thanks

flaviossa, the 404 error means the author is no longer a member and can't be found. You will need to put your name in the authors box. Be sure to add the authors name in the description section just to give them credit. See your PM for this same message. Thanks

Stovall and others,

A 404 error actually reflects a file that was lost in the 2010 server crash. In the subsequent library rebuild of that summer, (2010) the file was most likely replaced by an uploaded equivalent in the new library. In short, ignore it and move on.
