    OT: York Minster astronomical clock; WWII memorial

    Saw this last week on my way to Newcastle.

    I live outside of, but work in York and have seen this in the flesh several times. It's quite an impressive thing and has a rather H.G. Wells vibe to it. York also has The Allied Air Forces Memorial at the York Air Museum, Elvington just out side the city.

    Oh BTW Naismith your signature quote is one of Arthur C Clarke's Three Laws. He saw Asimov (who was a friend) had his Three Laws of Robotics and wanted his own.

    They are:

    1. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
    2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
    3. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
