Solar Eclipse!

Happening now. I got this pic at the peak of the event here in San Diego by using a pair of binoculars to project an image onto the side of my house.

Airplanes were not the only thing I grew up with. My Dad also makes telescopes! That means I also learned a bit about gazing at the heavens, and more importantly how to gaze at the sun and be able to see afterwards!

A few more...I dug out my old 6" newtonian for these shots. Haven't had it set up for 10+ years. Boy was it ever dirty!

for the life of me...i could not get my mother to believe this was real...even when the light dimmed and got a somehwat yellowish haze?...i had to discribe it as if the smoke from a fire was blocking the suns rays..then she realised that in fact it WAS a tad darker....then she called a few minutes ago and said OH WOW its bright out again.....then hung up........mothers.....

I can see fine. I used an welding mask with a No10 shade and then pulled the No5 shade out of my oxy acetylene.
