    New Mooney for Prepar3D

    Hey all,

I am working on an update for the present stock Mooney in P3D. I had talked with John Nicols on this before he had left.

The Mooney will be updated to the newest Ovation 3 model version thats presently out on the market and will have a more realistic panel and scaled parts. I might be reusing some parts, like the landing gear, but for one, the fuselage and cabin are being rebuilt.

This should then be a more pro 'flagship' for the great Lockheed Martin.

I found that the Mooney has different sizes of front windows on left and right sides.. The door side's window is much smaller, like a pressurized Cessna window.

With a new technique I have created, I was able to make a nicely rounded set of interior pillars. The actual Mooney has very nicely rounded pillars on the interior.

I found that I had modeled the air cooling intakes (small round scoops in front by the spinner) tooooo small.. arrgh. The Acclaim has very large intakes. I was able to increase the size of them on the model. Thank you Lord for enabling me to do that without too much mesh surgery. Very hard to do cowlings.. let alone redoing them...

Wings are in progress. I was going to use the stock FSX wings, but they are so simple, no curvature. They need some curvature!

Bill , looking forward to the new Ovation 3 and Googled some info as I wasn't too familiar with this model . Wow, I was amazed at the performance . 200+ without a turbo charger ! I was looking for the shortest landing distance and could not find anything on the Ovation 3 . Off hand would you know the take off distance(Max Load) and especially shortest landing distance ? I sure would'nt want to dent up your brand new paint on getting in and out of some the ORBX airports as we all know , some can be quite challenging !

Thanks for taking this project on .

    Hey Rich,

Im still in the modeling stage, I havent aquired all the performance specs yet. Very soon.

I went from the Ovation 3 to the Acclaim model. The Acclaim seems to be their top flag ship presently. The Ovation three is their standard line from what I read at the Mooney
    website.

Yep, they are fast! I didnt know this. I guess they picked up the ball from the Bellanca Super Viking.

    A couple of more.

I learned a few tricks with extruding and curved surfaces on this project. Also with composite curved object blending. Some cool things you can do in mesh....

This AFM is going to need some work. I might start from scratch.

    Most welcome.

Yep, the Mooney has been catching up. The new Acclaim does 242 KTAS at top out max. Cruise will get up to 237 KTAS at high altitude.

Note that Prepar3D can run raw models with no textures on them....! Schweeeet!!!!

It the texture is missing from the package though, the parts show up black. Note the top antennaes.
