    ENB Series

    For anyone using this visual enhancement tool, it was made to visually enhance numerous games and responds in mostly helpful ways to FS. Below is what I have been using for settings lately. It was time consuming trial and error which is ongoing when I have the opportunity but compared to default seems to me to be a better rendition. To start with I worked on the basics of eliminating the screen blips this tool can cause until you tweak it to play nice with your system. Then I was after better light/dark separation like under wing and fuselage areas and canyon shadows should be darker and ground scenery colors should be a tad more muted. Haven't started on distance blurring, water tweaks , reflections or motion blur yet. Seems benign enough so it shouldn't hurt to try it out.

    I had tried that out "way back when" and the strange thing was that sometimes it seemed to work great and other times, without changing any settings inside and outside of the sim it did not work at all, occasionally causing a FS lockup when switching views.
    Not one to give up just because it did not work the first time around I tried it again on the next GPU and it seemed to handle it much better and the display was at least consistent and no hangups.

    I have not tried it yet on my "new-isch" W7 PC .... might just have to give it another trial run one of these days.

    I love ENB and always fly with it on now. In fact I can't/won't fly with it off, as everything looks too 'technicolour' now in the standard mode. I suffer very little performance hit - it's a really great plugin and makes taking screenshots so much more fun. I admit though that it too a lot of fiddling to get things looking good. Forget distance blur, it does not work well in FS (great in Callf of Duty 2 though!).

    Guys, just to notify you, in the ENB "GTA San Andreas" that is commonly used for FS9 and FSX, only the bloom effect actually works with our sims.
    So in the [EFFECTS] section, enabling anything else than the bloom is just a waiste of FPS. Mainly, the Ambiant Occlusion effect is a ressource hog, and doesn't really work in FSX.

    If you want an ambiant occlusion that works with FSX, you'll have to switch to the Deus Ex (or Oblivion, I can't remember right now) version of the module. In this, the ambiant occlusion will actually work, but it won't look so good at all, and will kill a noticable amount of FPS.

    That's interesting that you say only the bloom effect works in FS9. I know on my machine I can change the shadow strength in valleys and such as well as color saturation, two things that I think make the game look better. There are several effects that first have to be enabled to work or must be within certain value ranges relative to another parameter to take effect. Now you've got me interested in checking more into this like entering extreme values just to see if there is a response. But it is definitely correct to say that this software needs to be tuned for a specific PC.

    I don't think the shadow effect works. Most likely what you saw is just a consequence of the changes you made into the COLORCORRECTION section, which is not really an "effect" like bloom or ambiant occlusion

    To be more precise, there are two other effects that you can "enable" with noticable results, but the results will be catastrophic:
    - the motion blur... just an horrible circular blur, like warp effect, but ugly.
    - the "depth of field", which changes the "focus" of the picture: everything wich is not on the same distance (from the point of view) than the object on the center of the picture is blurred... unfortunately, the result is very imprecise, as the blur, and in the end the effect give a terrible picture, unusable.

    Effects like "reflection" and "shadows" simply don't work at all. "SSAO" (ambiant occlusion) will work, but only in FSX, and only with native FSX models (won't work with FS9 planes in FSX). Moreover, the GTA SA mod will make the SSAO effect appear only on very short distance (even the dashboard on the Cessna is already too far, but if you move the camera closer, then the effect appears). With the Oblivion mod, the SSAO effect appears with unlimited distance, both inside and outside the plane, but it produces terrible shadow flicker on the runways and in the forest, as well as graphic artifacts on the sky.
