    WOW!! This is new, Mean AI WOW!!

    I have been playing with a mission from a friend for the Battle of the Bulge, driving a Sherman..
    With some Hints and advice given by our Masters here I decided to see if the AI players could be made meaner More aggressive..
    I may be on to something..

    I set up new parameters for my friendly AI the Shermans with me in the attack..
    And found them doing very aggressive things!
    The Friendly AI(Shermans) were ramming the Tigers!!
    And shooting like mad men at any German vehicles that moved into range..

    In this shot I am following a group of Sherman's into the attack, when one passed in front of me and rammed a tiger , then turned the main gun and engaged a another group of tigers to our left!!
    They just keep fighting and SHOOTING LIKE CRAZY AFTER THE GERMANS!!
    I think I like this!!
    Will have to test this a bit more, but right now this is wild!!
    so far 5 out of 5 times I have flown this mission this has happened..
    Will see if I can do this now for aircraft..More testing..

    Isn't this simply the reflection of the UI menu setting though? Which you can set up before pressing the 'Fly' button?

    Hi Nigel, the game has a setting for the enemy ai in the uisel file for enemy Ai none for allied AI
    location:
    (C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.Hobbit\Application Data\Microsoft\Combat Flight Simulator 3.0)
    Using XP

    In the uisel there is this (stock)

    <Mission>
    <Aircraft type="string" val="Bf 109E-4 JG2"/>
    <AmmoPct type="uint" val="100"/>
    <FuelPct type="uint" val="100"/>
    <MissionEnemyGroundSkill type="uint" val="1"/>
    <MissionEnemySkill type="uint" val="1"/>

    I added :
    <MissionAlliedGroundSkill type="uint" val="3"/>
    <MissionAlliedSkill type="uint" val="3"/>

    Now the allied AI are much more aggressive..
    Still experimenting with it all at this point..

    Oh, OK! By the way, in one of my installs I found the AI value set to 4. Don't know if that is of interest...

    Yes I have found that one can (manually) and change this value, and as I experiment with this I will let all know what happens..

    Hi Owen,
    Just catching up on this thread after two weeks away. The stuff in the uisel.xml is interesting. I've seen various combinations used in various installs.

    In terms of the "4" value, thats the one that crops up in the Quick Combat section of the UIsel file - its supposed to represent "random" skill setting - giving level 1, 2 or 3 at random. However in some official doc I've read that 4 is used for "Ace" setting so there's a bit of confusion about what it means but I just assume it means "random" and applies to QC air skill.

    For a mission using allied driveable tanks, their skill is set as an air skill parameter. One option is to get at the allied or player air skill setting by editing the mission file directly. After all, the game thinks a driveable tank is an aircraft, so its just like setting the skill level for player aircraft in a mission.

    Are there advantages for setting the allied player's skill settings through the UIsel rather than the mission file, Owen? I suppose it saves inserting skill levels for every single mission if you put it directly into the UIsel file.

    The "Missionalliedskill" setting is one I haven't tried. I've used "Missionfriendlyskill" as far as I can recall. But I'll certainly tried the alliedskill version, seeing as how it works!

    cheers,
    D
