    CaptSim TF-104 canopies Mark II

    Well, we're back discussing this thing again because I used Shift+e+2 to open the rear canopy, and it did open - but now the rear canopy refuses to close! While riding with the windows down can sometimes provide a bracing breeze to stimulate you, this is carrying things a little far. This is convincing me the problem lies somewhere in the panel config file. I saw in the first thread someone wrote in saying it might be a conflict with a gauge somewhere in the panel.cfg file. Can anyone provide a hint about what gauge I need to be looking at maybe commenting out?:ques:

    Bump . . .

    After reading your thread the other day I went and played around with my TF-104, the canopies stubbornly insisted on working properly.

    Assuming you are using the unaldulterated original panel configs (you are, aren't you?), then it seems unlikely that a gauge in your 104 panel is to blame.

    At this point I'm curious as to the circumstances in which this problem occurs. Are you loading the aircraft into the same flight each time the canopy fails? Does it ever, or has it ever worked right?

    I've flown the thing (TF) in various forms in every air arm there's a texture for. Never had a problem with the single-seat version. Have flown TF in (or rather over) Germany, Norway, Italy, the U.S. Different load configurations, too. In the past I've always used the shift+e+2 for the rear seat in the TF and when it didn't work I figured it just wasn't programmed into the config file, or air file or whatever. When I actually got it to work (once) a couple of weeks ago, I figured "Neat!" and began trying it in earnest. Ever since then I've repeated - repeated - repeated - repeated Shift+e+2. Even changed the config file when it worked once after I had typed the change in. Now it appears it doesn't matter, Shift+e+2 is it no matter what I put in the config - except it doesn't work for me. Hoodoo?

    The aircraft has been in my sim thru a couple of computer crashes. I've noted when rebuilding the sim after these crashes I can have texture folders in some of my aircraft files, yet the config file will be missing the appropriate entries for those textures. This makes me wonder if somehow the panel or aircraft config files have become corrupted during one of these crashes. I finally bought an external hard drive where I have every single aircraft master file (stock or add-on) stored, along with all add-on textures. This seems to have solved the crash problem.

    Here's my panel config:

    Your panel config looks like mine except for one strange difference.

    In window01 (icons) the gauge entry is something I've not noticed before: gauge00=cs_f104!Icons, 0,0,42,206,Voice

    Don't know what that "voice" entry means, I'm sure I didn't put it there, it doesn't appear anywhere else.

    When I asked when and how you loaded your TF-104 I was curious if something was lingering in the sim config, but that seems unlikely given the variety of scenarios you've tried it in.

    To me this seems like a real mystery, I can't think of a reason for it.

    This is my exits entry:

    [exits]
    number_of_exits = 2
    exit_rate.0 = 0.4
    exit_rate.1 = 0.4

    Reckon that's for the IP, beefing at you from the back seat. I wonder what would happen if that were commented out?

    Let me check the "config" file for the exits entry.

    EDIT: I checked on that "voice" bit - it was missing from my config file, I added it but haven't tried to fly it yet. Will give it a go and see what happens.
