new monitor and video card....help please

the monitor is easy...plug n play..or so it says..but id like to try to install this new video card i ordered..i did it in sort of a knew-jerk reaction to my currant monitor blowing up.....
i can open the case fine and swap out the card..i dont have a problem with that...but do i need to go into the BIOS and tell the computer to "see" the new card and disable the old one?
wil the software do this automatically?...if someone can help me id sure be gratefull....im kinda dumb at this stuff....im still fighting the "beta" and FSUIPC and my controlers...i want so bad to be able to pull my PT6 engined planes..or others back into beta at airports like St Barths while flying the DHC6.....i get so frustrated with the controlers and FSUIPC that i end up shutting down FSX and moving on to chat....whines

    Dave:

I have upgraded a few Dell GX270 desktop computers with recently Windows XP (32-bit), and I have had no problems. I just opened the case, installed the new 512 MB GeForce card into the appropriate VGA slot (don't have PCI), closed the case up, booted up and installed the driver. Then reboot. I had no problems.

My computers had an Intel on-board video display set-up germane to the machine. Installing the new card and driver just overwrote the software as to which video to use. I did not have to fool with BIOS at all.

If you have Windows XP AND A SEPARATE VIDEO CARD that you are replacing with a newer, improved card, I would suggest you go to the Control Panel and where it says Install/Uninstall Software, do that with the driver of your old card. Then power down, open the computer up and pull the old card. Install the new card in the appropriate slot (probably same as the old card), close up, power up and install the new driver. Reboot to register the changes. You should be done.

Before you install the new card...... Uninstall the old driver software first. Installing a new driver over an older one can and will cause problems.
Do this with the old card still installed, then reboot (with old card) so the generic vga driver is running, then shut down and install new card.
If you use any 3rd party apps like nvidiaInspector, MSI afterburner or software for ATI cards, you should update them too.
