Multi Player; Can we link in through an IP address?

    Hey all,

Is it possible to link into an online flight at SOH.net via an IP address?

Bill, the IP address for the SOH server is 72.233.79.242

I was on there all alone by myself for a while this evening. We've got our Cape to Cape Europe and Africa race going on now, and going online is a quick and easy way to clear out the AI so they don't get in the way.

In CFS we used to host games ourselves based on IPs. The host would post his IP for others to join. I believe FS9 still has this function, but I couldn't say for FSX or P3d.

Willy, we still do it every Sunday at noon, Eastern Time. Open doors policy...

Thats how I flew online with my brother and with friends in multiplayer. We never had a multiplayer software system to join, just dial up the IP in MP and you are flying!

Its like that now again in Prepar3D, basic IP address again. I love it, though I wish we could put in website addresses as well as IP addresses, but hey, its running smooth.... Thats what counts to me.

Willy and everyone - I remember in the fairly recent past SOH management saying something about a flight school being hosted on the site, on Friday and Saturday evenings I think - has that gone beyond the planning stages?

Isn't using a IP the only way to connect to any FSHost server? I never connected any other way to the servers I go to and also that's how u connect to my 2 servers.

With FSHost, you could type in a www address online, like www.sim-outhouse.net, and you got in.

I tried the IP address system last night in P3D and it couldnt link in. I tried it with port 23456 to 23456 (port range).

Bill, if you can catch up with Dangerous Dave 26, he's the expert on connecting to the flight server and might be able to help.

I was on there for about an hour last night with Moses as we were flying separate race legs. He was over the Mediterranean and I had started out across the Sahara. Had a pretty good chat anyway. Once the race is over, we'll probably be back to our regular nightly flights. I should be on there a bit tonight myself as it's a long flight for tonight.

SS101, I don't know what the status of the online flight lessons is. I'll try and find out something.

Might try opening up the port range setting to 23456 to 23460.

    *Welcome to SOH Flight Server.
Open to Hops List Flying and Free Flight
For March 2012 the hop list is Heart of the Amazon. This list is 24 hops and around 1,900 nm in FS9. FSX one of the airports is in a completely different location. You may choose to fly to that airport and it will make the hop list around 1,100 nm longer.
Most of the hops are short less than 100nm so bring your favorite Bush Plane turn up the autogen and enjoy.
Be on the look out for clandestine testing of unrealeased FSX aircraft as well. Be the first person to get a snap shot of the elusive **** ****** and win a prize.
This server uses Port 23456 for FS Hosting. Be sure to add this port and the ranges listed below to your port forwarding in your router. If you do not you will get the "Could not connect all players" Error.
    FS2002:
    TCP 47624
    UDP 2300 to 2400
    FS2004 and FSX:
    UDP 23456 – 23460 (Our servers)
    UDP 6073
    UDP 2300 to 2400

If I ever get FSX and all the associated goodies loaded again after this HDD crash I'll be thrilled to meet everyone on the server.

Yuck, what a chore....had to wait until after taxes.

    Be sure to load Teamspeak!
Basic Flying Rules: "Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it. The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there."
