There are close to 5000 files in the CFS 2 section of the Archive alone. Is there any way of uploading files en masse? I know from last time we did this, it can be very tedious, especially when you include a description and picture. Can the picture be added at a later date?

I am willing to do my bit if the only way of doing it is to upload the files individually. I can start on the Scenery section in chronological order, oldest files first. I'll try to keep each author's files together in a block, since we don't have a search facility by authors' names in the new library.

I think this massive project is going to need many helpers.

    Kdriver,

Yeup, my thought was to have each user upload a few a day...it's one of those scenarios where we'll all kind of need to pull the line together. That's why I'm waiting to post any updates I've been working on until after we get everything transferred over.

    Rami,

I've made a start by uploading all of MaskRider's files from the Archive to the Scenery, Other and Utilities sections of the Library. His avatar needs to be substituted for mine.

There are two Lindsay Watt files in Maskrider's name, viz. lwd_tree_library.zip and lw_library_objects.zip. I haven't uploaded these.

Perhaps you could delete files from the Archive as they are uploaded so any unnecessary work is negated.

If someone will give me the location of the 1% files I will start down loading them .

You have to understand the CFS2 AI inorder to command them.

The 1% aircraft are under the Author "1%" However it may be best if we could update the 1%s that still use the old stock AI models that have no VC at all or no working VC with The B24 Guys overhual models.

    Rami:

    In order to preclude duplication, possibly you should assign files created by users to be downloaded by selected users. For example;

"glh" should download all the warbird archive files under the name "Ickie", "B24GUY".
"Captain Kurt" to download all files by "1%", etc.

It does seem that some assigned order will be needed if I am understanding correctly what you are trying to do.

I bought a 500GB external USB 2.0 drive from Ebay and I hope it will arrive the next week. I will need to try it out and make sure it is working and then I would be willing to download/store/re-upload as needed. Never having UPLOADED a file to SOH, you will have to bear with me and maybe guide me somewhat.

You can check off The B24 Guys overhual aircraft. I'm working with him right now.

I'm simplify things by applying all of the updates/fixes that The B24 Guy has made. This will cut the number of needed downloads from 28 to 16 or only one download per overhaul aircraft. Excluding the OH B-24D that is already in the Warbirds Library. Also fix a number of them so they will work on Window 7 and some other bits.

    Kdriver,

    1) Thank you for not uploading Lindsay's stuff.

    2) There's no way to delete files or entries from the old archive, they are "frozen." That's why when you upload, you need to make a list.

I'm actually wondering if we really need some of MaskRider's older GSL packages, once we get everything uploaded. The packs from 2009/2009 have the older files included in them anyway and/or are superior to them.

I think this also applies to Xavier Berdague's 2006 East Asia scenery pack which supercedes all previous versions. Should I just upload that one and leave all the earlier ones in the old Archive?

    Kdriver,

Unless someone strongly objects, I am strongly inclined to agree with you. I think it would be best to allow the old, non-GSL versions of MaskRider's scenery packs (except for the ones for which there are no replacements) to be left to wither on the vine. It will streamline the new library, reduce the number of files to sift through, and overall just make this much less confusing.

And yes, let's absolutely extend this to others, including Achim and Xavierb. That's precisely why I reorganized his airbase packages last year, if you recall.

Also Achim's bases - are they all covered in the new Library?

    Kdriver,

    Yeup, see previous post.

It will take a bit more time, but I think doing this right and "sifting" through the downloads will be most beneficial, what about you?
