    Willy's African Adventure II

Starting off again from Hammerfest in the Golden Age in the Twin Beech with floaties. This should be interesting as it doesn't land as well as the one with regular landing gear.

Very nice flight from Hammerfest to ENVA. Had to fly through a storm and had a bit of turbulence enroute, but nothing the Beech couldn't handle.

Almost screwed up though. Went to the back of the plane for a bit (r/l: feed the horses) and just barely got back in the cockpit in time to make my turn at the next to last NDB. Guess I'll have to teach them to eat faster.

Going to give the SOH a server another try tonight while I'm at it.

Had a very nice flight down to Oslo Fornebu. Once we got there, I decided to get the floats wet and do a water landing next to the airport. Darn it all, I hit a log or something submerged and it registered as a crash on the Duenna. Got the Beech pulled up in shallow water next to a pier and cabin to patch the float.

I'll take the penalty for hitting a submerged object (not sure what that one is) and continue on from here.

Looks like I'll get to refly this one. On very short final to the active at Copenhagen (EKCH) in a rainstorm, a Danish Airlines Fw 200A Condor pulled onto the runway just ahead of me touching down on the numbers. I pulled back on the stick to fly about 100ft over him & go around and just as I got above him, FS registered a crash. *&^*%&%*&%!!! As I've probably already got one crash landing penalty on me for Oslo, I believe I'll just refly this one. But I'm blaming it on those idiots in the tower who told that Fw 200 to taxi onto the active.

    This just aint my night....

Setting up to refly ENFB to EKCH. Hopefully there's won't be anything on the runway when I land.

Made it safely into Copenhagen this time without any trouble from any renegade Focke Wulfs.

Nice flight to Tempelhof. When I went to leave Copenhagen, one of those renegade Focke Wulfs was parked behind me and Tempelhof had me park next to a red Ju 52.

Tempelhof scenery is from Lionheart's Operation Valkyrie.

I've put in a request for Miss Nellie to look at those oddball crashes I had earlier.

In the meantime, I'm off to Prague to "czech" things out. Ok, I'll get me hat..

Made it safely out of the Reich to Prague after the "bidness" trip in Berlin. If a war does brew up, these contacts could be very lucrative to the right group of people willing to fly across war zones for a little profit. Ya never know.

Prague is just a layover before more "bidness" in Italy....

Getting ready to head out to meet up with some Italians that my German contacts said could be helpful in Merc Air's import/export bidness.

Made it safely into Bolzano although I did get a bit confused as to just exactly where in the Alps I was for a bit there. Then I spotted a parallel railroad track and 4 lane highway running down the valley I was in. I figured that Bolzano was probably the biggest town in this part of the Alps, so I followed them on into town. Good thing too. After I landed and consulted the map, I was flying down a different valley than the one I'd planned on taking. That high powered NDB isn't much good when you're down in the valleys trying to stay below 12,000ft.

Discovered that I'm really rusty at hand flying too! Still haven't found the elevator trim in the Beech, so I was fighting a nose up tendency the whole way.

The pics are a bit scrambled. The first one is supposed to be the second one.

ETA: Figured up my Alps Bonuses at this point. 2 hours for landing in Bolzano and 15 minutes for the flight from LKKB to Bolzano. Going to see if I can pick up the rest of them to negate one of my crash penalties.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than to be good. This was one of those times. I didn't really have a flight plan, just a general idea of where I was wanting to go and it worked out for me. I was hoping to not run into any really high ridges and I didn't. And until I got to Interlaken's valley, the weather held so I could see and pick out my spots to cross the ridges. I just struck out with idea of holding to the NE of Interlaken, getting on the northern side of the mountains and then look for something familiar. Once I spotted Meiringen, I knew exactly where I was at. It worked out so I guess I got lucky.

Bonuses: 15 mins for connecting Bolzano and Interlaken + 15 mins for doing it under 12,000ft.

Now off to check in with Merc Air's Swiss banker.....

It really helped that I know the immediate area around Interlaken from the good ol' CFS 1 days.

Made a quick stop at LFLY, Lyon to get my bearings and allow me to quit this darn handflying. Taking off again for Marseilles

Bonus: 15 mins for flying from Interlaken to a prepared airfield.

The traffic at Marseilles was pretty busy, so I landed out in the bay and taxied into the airport.
