    Arrived Bechar.

I should have checked the winds aloft charts before starting this leg. The two thirds of the route were as expected but about 400 miles out I encountered significant headwinds. I had to continually increase the throttle to maintain my target ground speed. 31knt headwinds, then 37knt headwinds, finally maxing out at 57knt headwinds. I was running full throttle and could not maintain my target speed. 150 miles out I started my descent to try to get under the worst of the winds. When I arrived in Bechar I had missed my flight plan time by three minutes.

    Air conditioned cabin .... wow!

Always liked the PC-12 .... got me thinking about a modern flight Jeff.

That's an ideal plane for this odyssey.

The PC-12 is a very capable aircraft. Descent cruise speed, good range, outstanding short field performance, excellent payload, and as important as the AC, it has an enclosed WC (because some things should remain private).:mixedsmi:

Arrived Interlaken. Beautiful sunny day on Ibiza but heavy clouds in the Alps then rain on descent into Interlaken. Glad to have this leg done.

Leg #14 EKBI-ENVA (got the leg numbers messed up going into Ibiza)

MM, Yup, Billund is Lego HQ. I didn't know that when I selected this airport. It turns out it is the home airport for Michael63 (an online FTX flying pal too). He tells me there is a Carlsberg brewey nearby too. I was also informed that Lego is the largest Danish company. Any guesses for what company is number 2?

Short hop up to Varnes today. Closing in on the final flight(s).

Arrived Varnes. Still a fair bit of snow on the ground in Norway at the higher elevations. Pics of early morning departure from Denmark.

Uh... Jeff.. You are aware that the Modern era race ends at Honningsvåg Valen, Norway (ENHV), not Hammerfest?

    Possible divert?

Thanks for your concern Willy. That's what I really like about this community, we watch out for each other and help when we see something going wrong.
In this case all is going to plan. Penultimate means "next to last", my final leg will be ENHF-ENHV.

Leg #15. My FSX application just exited without warning while enroute and the duenna reported disconnection from flightsim. It is some kind of computer glitch.

I am unsure how to proceed or record this event. Is this a "real life event" or does it count as a crash? A decision from the Miss Nellie's is requested.

Ok, found the relevant portion of the rules:

Crashes on takeoff do not count. Pilots simply declare the event, and then begin again without affecting their logbook. Crashes due to computer failure are similarly declared, restarted, and of-ficially ignored.

Once again the SOH spring event delivers. I have had a terrific time flying this route. I know that I took the easy Modern Era option as opposed to the far more challenging Golden Age event but I have really enjoyed the flying. After Kinshasa I really worked on flying as close my pre-planned time marks as possible and I got better at it with each successive leg. Weather was never a problem for me but winds did effect me on a couple of legs. I have enjoyed watching everyones progress. Starting tomorrow I will be on vacation w/o internet but look forward to catching up with everyone in a week or so when I return.

Off to spend a week on the Friendly Island.

Congratulations on finishing! Now I see why you were going through it so quickly. And 4 seconds difference is going to be hard to beat for the precision race. Enjoy your vacation! I hope I'll be finished by the time you get back.
