BOAC plane needed

I was wondering if anyone has a texture set for JBK's DC-4 in BOAC markings.....either the 50's white tail or the 50's blue tail.

I would really love to have it for my collection if you have one.

BOAC didn't fly the DC-4. However they did fly the Canadair C-4 which was a Merlin powered & pressurized variant.

.....and JBK has done a comprehensive Argonaut/North Star package which has two or three BOAC paints.

That's Jens' Argonaut in the screenshots. There was an earlier FS9 Argonaut as well. Can't remember off the top of my head who did it, but it makes for good AI .

It's not true to say BOAC didn't have the DC 4

BOAC had four Douglas DC C-54 (DC4)

G-AJPL,M,N,O.

Mainly in a hybrid bare metal BOAC Skyways livery, G-AJPO at least is said to have worn the full BOAC livery.

All four aircraft were from Skyways and three at least flew in a hybrid livery

My guess is it was a way around the stringent conditions in those days stopping any independents operating in their own right

Domestic airlines could only operate charters with BEA's approval and schedules in association with BEA.

This was probably similar with one aircraft in full BOAC as a token, I've not seen any mention of more than one and have seen various mentions over the years that BOAC only had one DC 4 which supports that.

It was not unusual.

Lufthansa operated DC4 and Curtiss C-46 freighters with one aircraft of each in LH livery the rest in the owners.

BOAC were using Viscounts on African services in the 1960's with at least one in a modified BUA/BOAC livery.

BEA operated Avro Yorks, Canadair Fours and Britannias with the Britannias obtaining Red fuse squares, the others staying intact

BMA using two leased BAC One-Elevens in the 1980's for Aviation Cymru, one in full BMA livery the other in completely intact Cymru livery giving the impression there was only one.

Air UK operated a Convair 580 in full Partnair livery for a time.

So nothing is a surprise and not always as it seems

The FS Berlin boys did it for their DC 4.

This was in the late 1940's so with all that was going on rebuilding the country and things changing rapidly it is nor surprising that this has slipped by relatively unnoticed. It would have been of no more than passing interest to a very few at the time.

It's certainly not well recorded.

B.O.A.C. have recently made arrangements with Skyways, Limited, to charter Skymasters from that company for oil companies' traffic to and from Syria and the Persian Gulf.
Because of the special nature of the traffic, B.O.A.C. have announced that it would be uneconomical to use the aircraft types available in the present fleet of the Corporation, and the
chartering of Skymasters should secure a large proportion of the oil companies' air traffic besides a reduction of B.O.A.C.'s operating costs.

In 1949 the BOAC Argonauts were temporarily grounded due to cooling issues and the following was published in Flight :

In the meantime, the Corporation has made arrangements to maintain the service between the United Kingdom and the Far East by diverting Skymasters from their normal services between London and Bahrein and London and Abadan. The Corporation charter three Skymasters from Skyways for these routes, on which they will be temporarily replaced by Solent flying boats. The passengers for the normal Argonaut service will fly by the B.O.A.C. Skymasters eastwards as far as Karachi, where Qantas Empire Airways' Skymasters will complete the service to the Far East. The first Skymaster service left for Tokyo on September 9th.

G-AJPL had been destroyed in a crash 4 Apr. 1949 so that would indicate they were -AJPM, N & O -- which were subsequently "sold abroad" (in France) in May 1950

At the time of the above, the BOAC livery was bare metal with the Speedbird logo behind the cockpit windows so it's likely any full scheme for the Skymasters would be the same (still unable to find a photo of a Skymaster in BOAC use)
