Thread: Payware VIRTAVIA - F-111 AARDVARK FSX released

WHen whoever does seem repainting, please don't forget that the F-111F that went to Cannon and got painted in the dark grey scheme never got a chance to get weathered!

    ANyone remember this:

    Or this one:

The exterior detail of this model is not good simple as that. It appears to lack basic detail. It will take some painter to bring it to a decent level. Depending on paint kit quality.

I am not going to sugar coat this in anyway, but as a experienced F-111 researcher of some 20+ years they could have done so much more with this.

They also need to do some correct research on the paint schemes applied to these models before release to public.

A8-125 did not serve in that scheme at any time as far as i know.

I have become a far more demanding customer of late, i no longer pay dollars out for inaccurate FSX products.

    Aircraft or scenery.

And that's a no nonsense honest account of my thoughts here.

This post is not intended in being a developer bashing post in any way, i am just calling it as i see it.

If you ask for the publics money you must also accept what the public think good or bad.

    Cheers.

Thanks. It's the Simsavvy USA photoscenery, 1.3TB's encompassing 48 states. The locations in the screenies were New Mexico, New Hampshire, and Colorado.

Just in case someone missed it, the lack of detail that's being squawked about is all due to this model not having a set of bump maps in the texture files. It's got nothing to do with how it was modelled.

I'm not going to let that get in the way of me enjoying this model, but Virtavia may want to have them in their future releases, lol.

The weapons aren't releasable for bombing purposes, however, the capability to jetison the ordnance is there, and they will dissapear from the model.

If you want to bomb something, and you have another model that came with dropable ordnance, this works with the FSX command "Release Dropable Objects":

    1. Load a flight where you want to do some bombing.
    2. Save the flight.
    3. Look in your My Documents/Flight Simulator X Files folder for the .flt file you saved (whatever you named it).
    4. Open the file in notepad and scroll to the bottom of the file.
    5. Paste the follwing content in:

    [DroppableObjects.0]
    ObjectSet.0=M82-MLVZ, 8

    6. Click on Save.
    7. Reload the saved flight.

NOTE: where you see "ObjectSet.0=M82-MLVZ, 8" you need to put in the name of whatever bomb you have after the "=" sign. I just happen to be using the Milviz M-82. The "8" you see after the comma, is the number of bombs you want to carry. You can put 40 in there if you want.

I got burned with the EA-6B that didn't have wing views and the nav lights were floating in the air. RAZBAM got it right. This one doesn't either?

Bone, I have to ask, do you work for Virtavia?

Lol. That's a good one...nope, I don't work for Virtavia. However, I fly for an airline.

If you're looking to see what my creds are in order to rank my opinion on this matter (low, high, whatever), they are: ATPL with two type ratings, CFIIMEI (Gold Seal, and it's still current), Ground Instructor (advanced, Instrument), Total flight time=19,688; Jet PIC=11,150; Turboprop PIC=3072.

I have no vested interest here. I like the model, it's a nice balance, and it flys great. There are many here that are fantastic painters, and they tend to appreciate extreme detail, and may possibly spend more time looking at the beauty of an overbuilt model....and that's great because there is something for everyone in this gig. But, I'm a pilot, and I like to fly. This is good flying, and the VC is superb.

If you get it, enjoy! I'm going to bow out of this thread now, so you can PM me if you ever wanna talk pilot stuff.

    Cheers to all.

So...I have to ask...if you are strapped nice and tight into the F-111....can you see the wings and ord from the seat?

Mod's...what happen to the annoucement only threads? One again another product is being trashed and frankly.......I think it stinks. I left the scale aircraft modeling hobby even after being a successful IPMS competition modeler because the "HOBBY" got overwhelmed with the rivet counters who were NEVER satisfied.......I'm beginning to get that feeling here and now and it sucks.

I saw how razbam was complemented on a plane which shape is all wrong and sits completely wrong on the ground......but wait....you can see the wings from the cockpit. Amazing............

I have to say....I wonder why sometimes I even come here anymore. My only draw here lately have been the threads by Bomber 12th......thank god for him and his awesome planes.

    AMEN!

I'm glad someone came out and said exactly how I feel.

As to the F-111. I'm enjoying it. It is what it is. Nobody holding anyone hostage, and forcing them to buy it if they don't like it. Spend your money elsewhere if its not to your standards.

With that I am truly out of here!

So you can be critical of the RAZBAM model but I can't be of the F-111? Interesting. I guess my criticism is valid only if you aree with it? I'll be the first to buy good payware, but when I see a basic lack of research or corners being cut that shouldn't, then I feel I have every right to be critical. Anyone should. It can only help the developer in the long run, if they are willing to listening. But in this touchy-feely world we live in it seems that any criticism brings howls of 'how dare they'. Freeware, that's a whole different ball game.

Obviously you've never made a mistake in your life.

Seriously, why not put your 20+ years research into making your own F-111 for FS, that way you get an aircraft that you want.

Thats precisely what I did in 2000 when I couldn't find a decent SR-71 for flight sim. Try it, ya never know!
