Just saw a replay of that. Wow. The two "layers" of the safer wall were squished almost together. Don't see that often.

She did a great job in handling the impact - and to echo Waltrip & McReynolds, "kudos" to her open wheel experience....

    Hey All,

    Finally!!!! Back to racin!

That was a hard hit for Danica! I saw the video. She does know how to protect herself and she is small which also helps. In watching her drive I really like what I saw. Danica is exactly the kind of driver I like - smart, cool under pressure, controlled aggression, saves her equipment. Hotheads who just wheel a car - you can have them! I'll be watching Danica closely this sunday.

The year is shaping up great! Kasey Kahne and Jimmy on the same team with Jeff - outstanding! Now if we could just put Keselowski in the 88 and put them all in Dodges... The only disappointment is - what is up with Roger hiring Allmendinger? Get a real stock car driver! The sport is too specialized for open wheelers (except maybe for Danica).

Who is with me and thinks that the odds are 50/50 that Danica will win on an oval before Montoya ever does?

    Let's see...
    Open Wheel:

Allmendinger: 3 Champ Car seasons, 5 wins, 4 second place finishes
Danica: 7 IndyCar seasons, 1 win 2 second place finishes

    Penske is no fool :mixedsmi:

    Whoops! - One last thing...
Since you've still got that Montoya "Chip" (no pun intended) on your shoulders. I'll just say this....
Montoya won the Indy 500 and only raced in 2 full CART seasons. Danica raced in 7 full IndyCar seasons and never did win the Indy 5004

I'm not against Danica, I'm just keeping it real :mixedsmi:

i liked the "hotheads who wheel a car" comment...lol.....you go ed....lol....but seriously.....i HATED Danica when she first started..i thought she was arrogant and snarky...but the more i hear her interviewed, and hear her say things like..."i listened to what he told me when i asked him what i needed to do in this situation..."............i cant recall the entire conversation that occured..but i was impressed....shes not coming into this with that.." Im an INDY car driver,i know more than you fenderbois do" attitude, and shes asking questions and LISTENING when answered...not just hearing...big differance in the two...i also like AJ Allmendiger alot..i think he has alot of potencial,i dont think hes been given the right stuff just yet..but i think the 22 is the best equipment hes gotten yet...if he doesnt do anything with this situation..then ill write him off...i think Kasey is done too..he had his shot....driving the 5 isnt going to do it,,he may be cute,,but that wont get him far....i wish he would put some money in brad sweets camp and get him back in trucks and give him a better shot at it...with better equipment....BTW brad is married to a friend of minees wifes cousin...lol....he is from grass valley california..which is where the race track is that i got my start ,and where i was rookie of the year in 1980.......

She handled it real well! I wonder what kind of mature reaction you would get from Montoya if he had been taken out. His record shows how he reacts if his car gets bumped. Being mature has nothing to do with it,lol

And I gave Danica full credit for how she handled it in this thread :mixedsmi: As far as the Montoya thing is concerned well, I claim "Argumentum ad Hominem" since Montoya's record isn't conclusive to what you're claiming.

That was one heck of a hard hit Danica took. Thank goodness for the safer barrier, otherwise it would have been far worse.

Mikey and Darrel on Fox? I like the both of 'em, but that might be a Waltrip overdose. We'll see.

    Hey All,

    Penske is no fool :mixedsmi:
There is also an old saying that there is no fool like an old fool.

Perhaps the Captain should look into the history of Penske NASCAR Racing and ask himself - what kind of background do my past drivers who have actually won races in NASCAR come from?

He might see names like Bobby Allison, Rusty Wallace, Ryan Newman, Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski - all stockcar drivers from the word go. Only if you go all the way back to the early 70s will you find an open wheeler who won a race for Penske. His name was Mark Donohue - but that was at a time in the history of racing when drivers could "cross" different racing series and actually be competitive. All forms of racing have become so specialized over the last 40 years it is very difficult for drivers to race different series and actually contend for wins much less championships - ask Juan.

Now Roger can run any driver he likes but who he runs tells you much about how serious he is about actually winning championships.

Not sure what you're implying here when it comes to Keselowski & Allmendinger....:ques:

    Hey All,

Penske has won one NASCAR Series Championship. I'll let you figure out Who it was and what series.

That leaves Allmendinger. Now AJ is from all I can tell a genuinely nice guy who is willing to learn and that is good. But I think that during "Silly Season" Penske could have gotten a far more stock car skilled driver than AJ - but he didn't. How serious does that show Penske to be - especially given that both Kurt and Brad are skilled enough to win Championships? I'm not saying he should have kept Kurt - he did the right thing dumping him - but he could/should have gotten better than Allmendinger.

Perhaps he was looking long term so for example, that puts out Mark Martin. Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer already had moves cashed in so who else :ques:

    Hey All,

I didn't keep track close enough to know who was available when but I think Vickers is available now and as for next year I'd be trying hard for a Logano or Ragan if you want young or we'll see what higher ranking drivers come free. I like Brian Vickers as I think his general attitude toward racing is "right" and he is more of a stock car guy. You never know how his health problems have affected him although he was good in the 83 and with a better car would I think challenge seriously for some wins. AJ I'm not so sure. If you want to get way out there - wouldn't Danica and Brad make a good team - I actually think so. And getting even more way out there - if Johanna Long shows potential I think Roger should take a long hard look at her. Hiring a talented woman - fair or not - would be a smart financial move and perhaps encourage a full blown 3rd team which I really wish Roger would do.

Since no one else has picked-up Vickers, there **might** be more to his health assessment....Logano and Ragan appear to be somewhat of a question mark IMHO. Finally to top it off, last year Allmendinger finished 15th in the championship ahead of Vickers, Logano, and Ragan...

    One last thing...
Like Danica, Allmendinger has come out of the gates strong this season and out-qualified his teammate (Keselowski).....

    Hey All,

I would really put no weight on Daytona qualifying. Many teams do not take it very seriously as it doesn't matter where you start. AJ's real performance starts sunday and on into next week.

    Well then...
    The statistics favor Allmendinger.

2011: Allmendinger finished the season 15th, higher than the 3 drivers that you recommended
2010: Allmendinger finished 19th, still higher than the 3 drivers that you recommended
2009: Allmendinger finished the season 24th, falling behind Logano but still ahead of the other 2 drivers you recommended.

The biggest take-away though is that each year, Allmendinger has steadily IMPROVED his end-of-season standings/place.

Shows that he's a learner. :mixedsmi:

Ed, considering the multitude of titles and races won over the entire spectrum of Motorsport, including driving as well as a Team Owner, Roger Penske outshine every other NASCAR owner/driver.
I'd lay even money that 'The captain' knows EXACTLY what he is doing.
Did I mention his brilliance when it comes to his 'Business Empire'..............well, I have now.

    Hey All,

Penske has ONE and only ONE Championship in any top tier NASCAR Series in about 30 years of trying. If you say The Captain knows what he's doing well I say lets just let the record speak for itself.

One NASCAR title mean jack considering the balance sheet, USSC, Trans Am, Can Am, Indycar, USAC, CART, IRL, Indy 500 with his 'own constructed' cars, even an F1 victory [OK, it was John Watson, an Irishman who drove the PC3].
Add those to the vast number individual events won by Penske himself before he decided that he would do better as a team owner and NASCAR is insignificant.
Roger Penske is known and highly respect on an international scale, where aside from Richard Petty [like it or not, Petty was/is/remains the best ambassador for NASCAR ever] most non-Americans have never heard of the NASCAR family.
I doubt if to many know that Penske, Jim Hall and Hap Sharp completed a full F1 season way back in the early 60s, customer cars and of course, not very competitive, but they had a go!
Mate, you really need to get out more ...........
