This was the dawn Lufthansa flight across Germany, taking the Danish skiiers from Copenhagen Kastrup down to Innsbruck.

The on-board inflight entertainment system included a documentary by FlightSim, demonstrating how to fly perfect circuits down at Rio.

I got left behind in the P-38 team flight - I half-blew my engines by overuse of the WEP.

At least I made it eventually, within the 30 minute cut-off. Here's a string of Team Outhouse Lightnings patrolling in Northern Italy.

On a special request from Moses, a shot from my flight in the kick-off event:

Glad I practiced it beforehand, because there wasn't all that much clearance over the mountains!

On the road to Muscat (OOMS). Over the Persian Gulf as day turned to night, while keeping one eye on the Iranian coast...

As the sun came up over the eastern horizon I found myself in a race with Fliger to my old crash site- kaiTak. Thankfully they've removed my burned out AS Hornet I left on the runway 4 years ago.

Moses bring a Howard 500 into Z28S (or RCLM), and me about to leave in the P-51H.

South Pole airfield (NZSP) is on a hill, but the runway strip is entirely unsuitable for landing anything other than a helicopter. So instead we found a nice strip of hard-pack snow just beside the runway, and used that for arrivals and departures. The trick here was not to let the aircraft drop into the many crevasses in this area. The other challenge (for inbound aircraft) was height perception, as there is just nothing here but miles and miles of snow and ice.

A pair of three-holers waiting to depart the South Pole, as Dave successfully brings in the baton in the Mustang.

Here's a Kodak I grabbed last night during our formation flight over the Philippine Islands. The leg distance was 407.3 Nm and the time difference between the pilots from take-off to landing was just 1 second!

I got the wildcard leg out of the South Pole, and the planning we'd done as a team worked out great. Departure off the snow-pack parallel to Runway 20, then a left turn and fly all the way round the pole in a big right hand arc to properly cover the required degrees of longitude before heading off to the other end of Antartica. GPS and compass don't really work this close to the pole, so Larry did a great job as air traffic controller keeping me on track, and getting CrashAZ out of the "vortex" that happens when you get too close to South 90.

I'd practiced shooting night approaches into SAWB, but in the end the sun was still just up as I got there, so no problem finding the gravel strip. Here's the pair of 727s parked up for the evening (nice job by CrashAZ as wingman).

And I thought I was loopey this morning, after going into work I'm almost too tired to post pics BUT I can't let a good tragedy go to waste, I took some nice shots enroute to McMurdo:
