If you haven't done so already, I would do a repair of FSX using the instl. disk. If you have accleration installed use that disk. Just insert it and select repair. It will take a while.
As far as installing a new graphics driver, you can get them at
http://downloads.guru3d.com/. Choose either the 32bit or 64 bit driver depending on which Vista you have installed. Download the driver for your graphics card. I am not familiar with the ATI cards. Guru3D has both WHQL (released) and beta drivers so make sure you get a released one if beta drivers are a concern. I am using the NVIDIA 180.84 beta with no problems.
