Thread: A Lockheed "Rounder"

    Hi Milton

A cockpit and interior picture of a lodestar, not much detail so I don't know if they will help.

One should keep all reference pictures. Soemtimes the ones like these give you a perspective not seen in detailed pictures. I like these two pictures a bunch! Thank you.

Well, it has been 2 months since the previous post. In that time we were able to get the Avia 56 released, get the Avia 57 and the de Havilland Dash 7 to the paint shop, and add another Tracker variant, the S2F-1, and get it to the paint shop. So with all that done, I am back on the Harpoon.

I am still trying to work out a "date" wit Mr.Scholl of AeroTraders in Chino to get into their Lodestar and Harpoon. So far the timing just has not worked out...and now I am stuck in bloody Fort Worth for two weeks.

So, in a word I will get you some more pictures, but it will be a bit.

Thank you Sir! I will be on the exterior for a while yet so that should be fine. I have some hi-res war-era exterior pics of the "D" model and believe I have enough to do a nice job on the exteriors. I would like to see more war-era pics of all models for both me and the painters to reference. So any efforts to dig out 1940's era Lockheed Harpoon, Lodestar, USAAF B-37 and Ventura pics will be welcomed. I am not really interested in later mods as I would like these to be true war-era likenesses.

I appreciate everyones interest and time invested.

    High Quality Harpoon 3-Views

This is the best side view I have. I am not happy with my fuselage shape at this point and must redo it.

I would like to know if there are better 3-views out there than what this side view shows (enlarged).

Willing to pay for better if high quality and accurate.

All the 3-views I have are different from each other in features, shapes, proportion. It is very frustrating.

When you compare that side 3-view above to these WIP shots, you can understand why the fuselage needs to be revisited.

The nose appears to be too long and the mid-fuselage vertical girth seems to be lacking.

    Thanks guys for that assistance.

You can compare those side views and see the differences.

Any speculation as to which has the correct door location behind the wing?

The last one might be the best way to sort this out. For a mere $390.000 we can buy a PV-2 and measure to our hearts content :D
But as I recall the door should be just above the trailing edge of the wing in the standard location.

I have however seen one that had a larger door and further aft.

Version one is the more common one....

This sad girl as you can see in the photo caption was located at my home base, you can see the roof of my hangar just over the top of the fuselage. I took some pictures of her about a year after this shot was taken. By that time the interior was completely gutted.
My hangar "landlord" said he has a few series of shots that he took of the interior....while she still had one. He will get them to me and then you will get a copy of them of course.

And a much nicer PV-2 showing the same door location.

As a matter of fact this site has a whole slew of I think excellent detail pictures, including a few interior shots.

Okay, after a lot of playing with the side views it seems that the top one is a bit "squashed", not sure if that was my doing or the way it was.

Anyway, I built the fuselage to the top view.

The bottom view appears to be more accurate so unless someone thinks differently, I will change the fuselage to agree with the bottom side view.

Note the differences in the engine cowlings, nacelles, wings, and cockpit windows.

Comparing it to the two pictures I showed in the prior post I would agree that the lower one is the better one. The clarity in the one by Wijm on the prior page is better but I guess you want to have the three views from the same template to make your magic easier.

Would a vector drawing make things easier ? I only found one for the PV-1 but I'd be glad to get that for you as a contribution to the project.
