    Icon22 Freeware Fs9 Besch 17

    Hello.
I worked on this today for the 1st time in years.. I mean years. Well I reserected the old files and got it this far today.
    -New Air File
    -New liveries -under development
    -Xml Gauges
    -New sounds
    -New Vc textures and fixes
-Fixed the clicks in the vc so it is actually clickable now.
    -Lots of pop ups.
The old liveries will still work, but I tossed them infavor of new paints with the new way I paint now. All new high res skins. I still need to clean up some of the textures but Im tired now need to sleep. :0)

I will try to have it ready for you guys so you can fly it over the holidays. Its free ware.

Doing this one makes me look forward to the new Beech 17 for fsx.

Ps: I have heard some one say the bottom wing is upside down. No it isnt, flat side down curved side up like always. It has always been that way. I took the model and matched it to the factory drawings that I have here for the fsx version and they are correct. All I can figger is that the way the textures were done or the dynamic shine is making it look that way. But it is correct.

    Enjoy

Thank you Tom for your efforts, they are greatly appreciated believe me. Long-time fan of the Beech 18 here.

Used to work for the Dept of the Navy and was assigned to NAVSTA Pearl Harbor, HI for a while. Came in to work one morning in '96 or '97 through the main gate. On the grass median in front of the gate, about a mile or so down the road before you got to the gate, sat a Beech 18 fuselage and stub wings, as far as the outside of the engine nacelles. No engines, and no door. Tail was on bird. Plain metal, no markings or paint. Aircraft sat on its own landing gear. Rubber in poor shape. Actually crawled up into aircraft and noted it had been gutted, crew seats were up front but no instruments and no interior fixtures. It wasn't on Navy property so I had no interest in it, other than as an old maintainer. The radio announcers were making jokes about the thing being stolen property that was ditched because the cops were chasing the thieves. I have often wondered what became of it.

I want to get some fs9 projects finished that I started years ago. The Ford Tri Motor I built for fsx kinda burned me out so I need a break from the hard core designing and just do some light work for now. This old staggerwing has been downloaded so many times that I figger it must still be popular. Im tweeking the model a bit here and there with the new things I learned from the Ford Tri motor so the result will be good. Fsx is great because you have a huge area to design in, while in fs2004 you need to be carefull or you will over built the model pretty fast. So then it boils down to textures and how well you can do them to make up for the lack of Polies.
Its great to see there is still good support for the sim. I hope development by freeware developers carries on in scenery and air craft designs.

Eagerly looking forward to this! The Beech 17 was always my favorite of your models...

    Tom,
I'm the one who keeps saying the wing TIPS are wrong. The upper surface of the TIPS should be even with the TOP of the wing surface. On this model you have them even with the BOTTOM of the wing surface. The wing itself is otherwise correct. Look at your picture of the post above this one, then look at the tips in my scale R/C model in my avatar. I've had both of your Beeches since the payware days long ago, and they are still in the hanger. The wingTIPS are the only complaint I've ever had with them. It's all four wingtips that are wrong. Not the bottom wing.

BTW, you have the wingtips absolutely correct on your FSX version that you previewed a while back. (I hope you haven't changed them!)

My two ALL TIME favorite aircraft are Beechcraft's first two commercial releases, the Model 17 Staggerwing, and the Model 18 Twin Beech, (which will be my next R/C build, 1/5 scale, 114" WS.) Looking forward to your FSX release with great anticipation.

I will be downloading your updates to this model, also. Thank you.

This is a older model of Beech 17, the one in your avatar is newer and the one Im building in fsx is newer too.
This model is now and always has been the pre-production model of the Beech 17. The tips are differant on the production modle because they discovered vortex problems with the pre-production model. Why did I build the pre-production model? Because in 2001 they were the only factory drawings I could find at the time and Raytheon was not willing to give me a production set then, all they gave me were old test drawings and pre production stuff, so I had to go with those. Luckily they were nearly perfect scans. To me this makes this model even more cooler then the fsx one because it will always be the only pre-prodction model of the Beech 17 in flight sim. Now I have a new set of drawings for the final production model given to me by Raytheon, finally.. took almost 9 years to get them.... In 2001 this was the very 1st released model for flight sim with a clickable vc (Fs2002), the 1st one. I didnt even know how to make a mouse capture but I knew it was coming up in Fs2004 so I found a way to make it clickable. :0) Also notice how there are no tension wires on the wings, they were trying to get away from those but they had too much wing flex in pre-production, also another reason for the wing tip design. Later on they solved this problem and didnt need the tension wires.
This model and the Beech 18 were and are the most successfull planes I have ever released. Both commercially and freeware.

I will work on a new livery tonight and show it to you.

    Thanks!

I spent two years taking a (1942 "D" model) Staggerwing from old deteriorated wood to a completely renovated airplane. All new wood including complete fabrication of the horizontal stab and about 60% of the wings were replaced. Also all new wood ribs, stringers, etc. On that particular airplane, there was no "flat" side to the wings. All wings tapered to a center stringer that ran the entire outer edge of the wing tips. The attached pic is not the one I worked on (I can get one if necessary) but it shows a smooth taper on the wing tips, nothing flat about them.

Well if thats what you guys want I will delete this one and just concentrate on the fsx one then.
It takes mega time to build these things and time of course that is taken out of my family life.
So to rebuild this one the way you want is just a waste of my time, it would be better spent on another more productive addon.
If any one wants this one they can email me directly for a down load and you can have it. It wont be released publicly.

    Thanks for your input.

Tom - I would very much like the FS9 download regardless of which way it is - I am just happy to be enjoying the beautiful work, besides, the price is right! How can I hook up with your PM to set up the download?
