    Flight 19 Rocky Ramble

The next Flight 19 adventure will involve flying lower and slower. We shall begin at Calgary's Springbank (CYBW) and head for a bit of short distance General Aviation flying in Alberta, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. Then, perhaps, we might turn northward.

Two bits of scenery will prove attractive but not necessary. These are designed for FS2004.

The first is the delightful "Pete & Sid's Viva Scenery," by Sidney Schwartz and Peter Ham. The package populates medium and small airfields and airstrips throughout the Northwest, Canada, and Alaska. It constitute a goodly-sized download but gives extensive coverage. At FlightSim.com or at AVSIM, look for pss_1.zip, pss_2.zip, pss_3.zip, and pss_4.zip as well as pss_so.zip. Ultimate Terrain users can also pick up Sidney Schwartz's fixes for six airports. At AVSIM, get pss_ut_updates_1.zip.

The second package is "Montana Unleashed" by Lauren Robison with Sidney Schwartz. At FlightSim.com, see montanau.zip and montunp2.zip. At AVSIM, montanu.zip and montana_unleashed_pt_2.zip. This package is really first rate freeware, with many of Montana's airports, large and small, depicted in an interesting and varied fashion. (An upgrade for Ultimate Terrain, by Ray Lunning, is at AVSIM: montn4ut.zip.)

A brilliant rendition of Calgary Springbank, by Adam Bentley and David Madge, can be found at FlightSim.com as cybw_v1.zip.

We should like to express our special thanks to Sidney Schwartz, Pete Ham, Lauren Robison, Ray Lunning, Adam Bentley and David Madge. Your wonderful work makes our hobby so much better.

The first leg is Calgary Springbank to Kalispell Glacier Park International (CYBW-KFCA, or CYBW-KGPI) where the gang can clear customs.

For your viewing pleasure, The Going-to-The-Sun Road - A National Historic Treasure

Connect with it at Babb, MT (49S) and wind your way through rugged mountains to the welcome of the Flathead Valley.

Use this map in concert with the attached flightplan for guidance (7500 ft asl "should" be safe)

    Just a thought.

I am using FSX with ORBX Pacific North West, Northern Rocky Mountains, Central Rocky Mountains and Pacific Fjords scenry plus several of their airports and am wondering if I were to join you on the SOH Flight Centre whether I would show up as flying with you or not.

    Cheers

Yes Pat. The scenery add-ons won't affect anything except perhaps hills and such that will be different heights, and modified airports with additional ramps, parking etc, but we kind of ignore a lot of that formality anyway.

Your a/c will show (with some limitations across the two platforms) or we squint a bit. As long as you are using the FSHostClient we all see each other

Waiting for the rest of Flight 19 to show up for the flight from CYBW to KFCA, but they must have got caught with the Canadian Custon folks, now what would they be trying to get into Canada?

The plan according to the most recent discussion. All the way from CYBW to Demi Moore's ski chalet

Got my ride all sorted out. I borrowed this T-34 from our friends in the Air Force. I'm sure they won't mind if I use it for a while. Just hope I can keep up with all those multi-engine ships...

Great flight down from Springbank Calgary to Glacier Park. And a fun time winding through the mountain passes.

Been drooling at that Volpar all night, but flew the route in a bit more comfort.

    Thanks Willy-

More valley surfing on the way to KBTM. A rare sighting of the biggest Beech in all the land.

Of note: Our tour guide was AWOL, having gone downstream for an afternoon of beaver trapping.
