Let Being Helpful Be More Important Than Being Right.

It was interesting to read an article written at the time rather than an historical interpretation.
The plane the article refered to as the 717 was sold as the 720, don't know why they changed the name.
I had no idea that they were already planning the 727 before they had even started delivering the 707.
Hah!
A couple of us were talking about this today while watching KC-135's roam around the pattern!
Basic Flying Rules: "Try to stay in the middle of the air. Do not go near the edges of it. The edges of the air can be recognized by the appearance of ground, buildings, sea, trees and interstellar space. It is much more difficult to fly there."
They had no financial pressures, the tanker 'subsidy' (call it what it is guys) meant that the 707 was going to be a success whatever; and, of course, the Boeing team had been invited over to Hatfield to look at the early design proposals for what eventually became the DH Trident - so they knew that something like the 727 was viable, and if de Havilland were going to be stupid enough to give them a leg up ......
