Falcon has suggested a handy little utility to quickly adjust the size of the a/c in the preview (turntable) window of FS. It is simplicity itself, but after trying it on several a/c I get this message:

The MDL was not in the expected format!

Has anyone else gotten this? What is the problem?

Well, I screwed up on this one. . . .my bad. This is only for native FSX aircraft. That's why you're getting (and I suspect the others are too) the message that the mdl file is not in the correct format. I just tried it on several FS9 airplanes I have in FSX and got the same error message, then I tried one of the default FSX airplanes and it read the mdl, no problem. Sorry.

Hey hey Guys, dry your eyes....

Now, us from the Senior-sim, for years have been using a great little prog called MDLC, which we mostly use to convert Fs9 (both FSDS and Gmax made) ac for use in CFS2. BUT, with it you can do so much more, including, shine, reflection AND visual model size (which is the part you want).

With Morton's bolt on it becomes mk_MDLC v2, a simple visual automated process, that you can use to easily alter the preview size (in CFS2 it's used for the collision-bubble size, but does affect the ac preview size).

It's here at the SOH, download and have a play, be aware it will not always modify every mdl (and won't do native FSX ac), but most will and it is addictive......

Your thread has inspired me to ask another (related) question. One of the fun things to do with the Senior Sim is to find an AI aircraft, especially if you are flying something like an F-89 or a Beaufighter, and try to formate on it at night. My problem is I am constantly breaking the collision bubble and experiencing a mid-air with the AI bird. You mentioned the program you used for preview size has something to do with that collision bubble. Can it be used to make it smaller around an AI aircraft?

Why not just turn "collisions" off?

In AFCAD (for editing FS2004 airports) there is a tool in it called Aircraft Editor which changes a planes assigned distance radius. Go to Tools/Aircraft Editor.

Note, its in Meters, about a yard.
