New! KSNA, John Wayne-Orange County Airport

    File Description:
John Wayne Airport (IATA: SNA, ICAO: KSNA, FAA LID: SNA) is an airport in an unincorporated area in Orange County, California, with its mailing address in the city of Santa Ana, which is also the county seat, hence the International Air Transport Association (IATA) airport code. The main entrance to the airport is off of MacArthur Blvd in Irvine, the city that abuts the airport from the north and east. Newport Beach and Costa Mesa form the southern and western boundaries, respectively, together with a small unincorporated area along the Corona del Mar (73) Freeway. Santa Ana lies just north, not actually touching the airport directly. Originally named Orange County Airport, the county Board of Supervisors renamed it in 1979 to honor the actor John Wayne, who resided in neighboring Newport Beach and died that year. It also became the first airport to be named after an entertainer. The main runway, at 5,701 feet (1,738 m), is one of the shortest of any major airport in the United States, resulting in most passenger aircraft operating from the airport to be no larger than the Boeing 757. However, some larger cargo aircraft, such as the FedEx A310/300, fly from SNA. Some gates are built to handle planes up to the size of a Boeing 767, which can operate with payload/fuel load restrictions. No wide-body passenger aircraft are currently in scheduled service at the airport.

Be interesting to compare... Shez Ansari's excellent scenery is only a year old, if I recall.

Shez's was very good and I'd been using it for a while, but this is even better.

    Yup, the airside is good.
I removed the animated road traffic, is Oliver Pabst the only person in the World who can do this convincingly?
I may remove the static cars too, they are too bright, and repetitive.
Also I find the total lack of autogen around the airport strange.
I will apply some newfound skills to this, perhaps.

    John Wayne-Orange County Airport Scenery

Isn't this the airport with the climb-out angle that makes it feel like you're riding Apollo 13 straight up? Supposed to be the steepest departure specs anywhere in the U.S., due to noise restrictions imposed by the surrounding communities, I've heard (no pun intended).

Yes it is.I have flown in and out of SNA several times and its one of my all-time favorite airports(and the fact that its located near Disneyland helps).

That was KLGB (Sunskyjet) I think. KSNA was released back in 2004.

True... it was patched last year, to address some seasonal textures, and AI conflicts.

Climb-out wouldn't be anything to do with the proximity of Tustin MCAS then?

No.I don't believe Tustin has anything to do with it(it's inactive). Its all the housing around the airport(Newport Beach mainly).

    Excellent scenery!!

I only encountered one problem - due to the fact I had installed SNA 2004 by Shez Ansari earlier along with the related updates which are available on Avsim I encountered the problem of aircraft sinking on the runway (down to the level of the wings). When leaving the runway the aircraft "climbs" up and all is back to normal along the taxiway and the rest of the airport.

The partial solution offered by MK studios is here (follow instructions in topic)
    http://mk-studios.com.pl/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17

Additionally I also found that due to the fact I installed another update available on Avsim (filename - 3altfix.zip) for Shez Ansari's KSNA scenery I needed to remove a bgl file named KSNA_John_Wayne_Santa_Ana_SNA2004_17pt359.bgl from the Scenery/Namw/Scenery/ folder in order to finally resolve the sinking issue.
