    thanks Dave.
it's all good, except for the typical stuff
    that never seems to change
and there's nothing we can do about it.

i'm hoping for sooner than christmas,
but i know better than to commit.

way back, almost a year ago,
the first two lines of this thread,
    pretty much, still hold true.

    ...dashing through the snooow

have i ever mentioned how much
    i hate being cold?

That Arado 196 does seem to be coming along quite well.

Here's a pretty girl I met a couple weeks ago.

    Texture Samples

First was created / edited with MS Paint.
Second was a much larger BMP that was reduced and blurred a bit.

    it's odd...
usually, if i click on an attached image,
it will enlarge for better viewing.
    no go, this time.

    Hi Smilo,

I am pretty sure you are joking, but for others who can't figure it out:
This is a basic image for working on the 4 colour and the 5 colour German WW1 Lozenge camouflage.
The image really is only 75 pixels wide. You can get larger images but need to reduce to this size for CFS texturing.
The fabric is 4.5 feet wide. The scale for texturing the upper wing of my Albatros D.Va is 15.36 feet over 256 pixels.
4.5 feet at this scale is 75 pixels.

The point I was trying to make was that by starting with a 300 pixel wide image and reducing the image to 25%, the smoothing done by GIMP makes the final result nicer than one with each pixel distinct as done in MS Paint.
Each pixel in the small image is a single colour as Hubbabubba wrote, but the multi colour effect effectively smooths the borders.

    - Ivan.

    Hi Ivan,

That will teach me to read a post to the end before answering...

This processing is called dithering, and I would dare to say that GIMP makes a splendid job!

I just hope that, now, you will extend your palette to the limit. My next chapter on "New ways to have fun..." starts dealing with textures; talk of a coincidence!

I will e-mail you on that subject during the week, btw...

    P.S.-

This is the dithering in question on the second picture. Can't see it in the first... but it doesn't mean that it is not there.

    Hi smilo,

The new attachment gizmo doesn't like windows 98SE... snif

    Hello Hubbabubba,

It definitely is NOT in the first pattern which is why I picked those two to illustrate.
I thought I would finally do something on the Albatros along with the Macchi 205.

Yes, GIMP does seem to work fairly well, but I am not quite sure which algorithm to use when re-scaling the images.
This one was done with the "Cubic" algorithm, but to be honest, they all look about the same to me. Gimp also works well for the overlaying of panel lines and also for palette editing. ;-)

    no joke, Ivan.
i can barely see your attachments.
    and to be honest,
i'm in the " for others who can't figure it out:" category.

    thanks hubba, for the enlargement.
    that clears it up nicely.

    at this point,
i figure i need to build the parts
    before i can texture them.
so, i'll wait to explore that aspect.
don't want to get side tracked, you understand.

unfortunately, at the rate i'm going,
    it might be another year
before a properly textured model is done.
i guess, there's always the gray primed option
and let folks paint it as they like.
we shall see how it goes
when we get to that point.

    in the mean time,
i'm still working on interior parts.
    maybe a screenie later.
for now, it's just a conglomeration
of a bunch of unsequenced parts.

    sometimes it doesn't.

No, No, No, NO, NO not another year!!

Depending on what date, or who you believe... the world may end ......I have to fly that bird before
    I turn to dust.

Well OK, next (not this) birthday will be fine with me. I figure I survived Katrina, I can survive the end of the world,
so long as "you also survive" in order to complete this plane.

i thought that might get your attention!
sorry for being so cruel, Dave.
    i'm plugging away, honest.

last weekend, i lost hours of work.
    i was taking a break,
    watching a little tv,
    when all of a sudden,
i looked over at my monitor
    and my machine was rebooting.
    WHAT THE HELL!!!
    frickin' automatic updates.
of course, it was my fault
for not hitting the save file button,
    but still.....
fortunately, it didn't take too long to rebuild.

here's a shot of the interior stuff so far.
    -seat is too blocky
    -throttle quadrant is too wide
-right rudder pedal is just a slab
    for location purposes.
-i do like the yoke, though

and notice how i've angled the shot
    so the parts don't overlap.
    how considerate

    apparently, there's another panel
and map table behind the pilot's seat
    facing aft for the observer/gunner.
not to mention the observer seat.
    they're on the list
