oh, she's flyable. very much so.
Ivan made a very nice air file for her.

    she just looks weird,
with all the parts in different colors.
    i'm considering redoing her
all dressed out in light gray.
but i'm also thinking it will be a waste of time.

i spent the early morning drive to Tacoma
    thinking about texture mapping.
me thinks that's going to be a challenge.
    we shall see.

also, i'm really struggling to stay focused.
thoughts keep drifting to an a-20 and do17.

    Hi Smilo,

I still haven't quite figured out the water drag part of the Ar 196 AIR file yet. I actually haven't been working on much of anything lately except for some basic research on a couple other projects. That means that I am doing a lot of reading and a little review of drawings and such but no cutting of virtual metal.

The A-20 is waiting for me to create an Engine Nacelle Template. The Dornier 17Z is wating for some work on the Cockpit Framing. The Marauder is waiting on a a conversion between a Fuselage Structure to Fuselage Components among other things. The Mitchell actually is making some progress with its AIR file but needs a LOT of flight testing. The Ki-61-I needs a good paint job and a Check List. The Macchi 205 needs texturing and a Check List. The P-36 is seriously on hold because I need to do some basic drawings to translate from the P-40. The Corsair rework is waiting on me writing a C language utility tomove things around. The J2M Raiden needs some basic reference drawings to start but has a lot of performance figures and dimensions for a Flight Model. The N1K2-Ja Shiden-KAI has a basic reference drawing but is missing lots of data for the Flight Model. The FW 190A needs work on a better flight model. I believe I won't be worrying about whether AI can fly the thing or not.

I think that covers most of the status of projects. There are at least a half dozen such as a CW-21 Demon, Heinkel 177, Slingsby Glider, Ohka flying bomb, and such that I haven't looked at for a long time.

    - Ivan.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the rather cool looking Spitfire Mk.IXc that flies like a Mk.XIV with the stock AIR file and of course no camouflage....

    well, not much this weekend.
    family stuff instead.

started on the rear mg17 and a human.
gotta have a crew, you understand.

Building a Pilot was one of the tougher things I have done. I ended up reading a few ergonomics books and such. The most famous of those is "The Measure of Man" which give a mess of statistics for the "Average Person".

The current one I am using took about 3 tries to get accomplished.

    progress report;
    no, i haven't given up.
    although, i have been thinking
    about an a-20 and a do 17.

    spent most of last weekend
    assigning texture mapping.
still a lot to do there.
haven't even started on the texturing.

finally finished and installed the rear mg 17.
    started on the crew seats
and will work on some other interior items.
i need something to see in vc mode.
still much work to do on the crew.
    that's a tough one.

today, i reworked the left flap
    and aileron movements.
i think i've got them close enough.
    next, rework the rudder movement.

don't know how much will get done tomorrow.
    we're having a belated mother's day gathering.
that should shoot the second half of the day.
then there's the change in weather.
got lots of outside chores to do.
sure beats freezin' my hindy off, though.

    overall, not a bad morning.
    finished the float rudders
and cleaned up a few little things
    that were making me crazy.
    of course, doing that,
    i found a few more.

This is taking shape rather nicely!

    Hey Smilo,

Your Arado 196 got me to looking around the stuff I had installed and here is a screenshot of me playing with a rather more primitive float plane.

i'm thinking that i could easily
    become float plane boy.
there are so many to choose from.
    one could spend years
    just building floaters.

    ......
    upon closer inspection,
    "close enough" isn't close enough.
so, i intend on getting it closer.

let's see if i can get anything done
    over the long weekend.
    i've got four days off...yippie!

got up extra early this morning
and fixed the aileron and flap
    alignment for both wings.
    it isn't perfect,
    but it's close enough.
    this time, i mean it.

    while in the area,
    i redid the strut sequencing.
if you look closely at the above screenie,
    you'll see that the struts
    are each in three sections.
    hopefully, i've fixed that issue.

also fixed a forward strut cross member bleed
that i hadn't noticed until recently.

    now, after all that work,
i see an aft strut bleeding
    through the aft karman.
should be an easy fix, though.

then, it's on to the rudder and elevator assignments.

but first, i have a honey do list
    as long as my arm.
stuff i've been putting off for years.

the daughter is coming home next week
and she's bringing her new boyfriend.
    for some reason,
i feel like making a, relatively, good impression.
