Thread: Russian Airliners?

    Russian Airliners?

Does anyone know of any Russian/"Eastern Bloc" airliner types available for FSX? Looking for FSX-native with good VC and at least semi-realistic systems.

Examples (also in order of my priority wishlist...haha!):
    Tu-154 (preferably M model)
    Tu-134
    An-24
    Yak-42
    etc, etc.

I am already aware of the following:

    T. Ruth...An-124 + 225 (cargo types...very nice, but looking for airliners)
    K. Konovalov....Il-86 (lacking English manual...and I'm at a loss for operational guidance.)
    T. Conrad....An-32 (a bright spot in the absence of aircraft of this type!)

I used Project Tupolev's Tu-154M, and SCS's Tu-134 series very extensively in FS2004, and I miss the complex and unique operation of those models in FSX.

I perhaps performed a major "faux pas", and actually queried Mr. Ruth by email a few days ago, both praising his recent 727 and asking if he would be willing to produce a Tu-154M (and I am willing to lend as much reference and testing assistance as practical), but have not heard a response, which may be expected by that sort of email.

Again, if anyone knows of FSX native, or FULLY compatible (visuals and systems) ports of any of the above Russian/"Eastern" aircraft, with full VC, please post here.

    Thank you for your assistance,

    -Sean :salute:

P.S. I would additionally appreciate any knowledge of forthcoming aircraft under this category that are currently being produced. Freeware or payware.

Additionally, before people start selecting certain files on that website, there are a few that mention FSX compatibility, but they are often stripped quite substantially of their functionality in order to achieve that, sometimes only leaving the plane's shell/vc, and with minimal gauges.

I have attempted to perform a very thorough search of all FS file repositories, both major and minor, prior to asking this question. I just wish to establish that I did not miss some out of the way location, as well as ensure that I am up to date on any news of aircraft of the type being in development.

I imagine that Russian (and the similar) aviation is probably not very popular in the FS community, perhaps due to a combination of prejudices, learning curves, and developer system strength (FSX is still difficult to handle for many).

Hopefully we'll see more of the types I outlined in the original post in the future for FSX or MSFlight!

    Thanks.

EDIT: Apologies, forgot to mention that I am indeed aware of Mr. Conrad's amazing and excellent An-32! Thanks for the note, though!

Tom clearly stated at one point that he does whatever *he* wants to do, so requesting anything from him is more than pointless.

The last aircraft he was working on was his old FS9 Tu-144. But he kind of got stuck and did a DUS scenery instead.

If you want more russian airliners, well...DIY or wait.

Sorry I can't help you, but I agree with you Tu-154M for FS2004 has been one of my favorites and I still miss it. For real aviators only. And, Project Tolmachevo sceneries, wonderful places to go with it.
I made these videos for FS2004

How about this one? The Sukhoi Superjet 100. It's experiencing the usual teething problems but is an interesting/promising design.

SamdimDesign, Yakovlev and more exotic planes

Yes russian planes were mostly made for FS9 (I guess they don't have fancy computers even today over there in the east).

This web site is full of FS9 planes, it's at least interesting just to look at them, and some planes might port over:
    http://samdimdesign.free.fr/

Here is a payware Yakovlev 40 for FSX, looks nice isn't it? But no VC... what a pity for a payware...

    Some more Soviet aircrafts here:

Look at Project Tupolev for their great TU-154 and IL-62 (mostly FS9 but with some efforts might work in FSX):

I guess you already knew this....

I myself have been toying with the idea of building either any of these aircraft as one of my future projects for FSX via the company I work with, which are:

    1) Sukhoi Superjet 100
    2) Antonov AN-148/158
    3) Sukhoi SU-80

I even started the AN-148 already but I re-considered and thought about making a commuter aircraft that may appeal to most simmers, it'd be nice to know if these would be popular. Cheers!

Looks like it's just a waiting game for future aircraft.

Jose, any of those would be neat! I would personally prefer them in the order of Su-80, Antonov, then the Superjet, but I suspect that the Superjet would probably sell the best due to it's similarity with standard western tube types, and that seems to be the popular (though boring in my opinion) type of the day.
So, from a business decision, I would do the most traditional looking aircraft first, though the Su-80 would look really cool!

Igor Suprunov is not only a developer, but he also is a commercial pilot and has flown several different aircraft including the Yak 40. The attention to detail in his visual and flight models is astounding. I owned his Yak 40 in FS9, and have been waiting for his FSX version for some time now.. You may want to take a look

Yes, I have owned the Yak-40 when I used FS2004. I too have been waiting for an FSX version, but I'm not holding my breath.
It was certainly a very nice 2004 aircraft though!

As plenty here have reiterated, there are numerous FS9 aircraft, but nothing that is fully compatible, and I stress, fully....compatible, with FSX, yet.

It's very clear now that as of yet, there are no Russian/Eastern airliners in existence for FSX with the exception of Konovalov's and Conrad's. (Though Conrad's and Ruth's lean more towards cargo aircraft...)

As we are now treading towards the territory of repeated answers and failed reading comprehension, I think it's safe to call this one closed. I appreciate the effort though.

Tupolev 144, the doomed Soviet Concorde

Don't close this thread yet, it's a good place to share ideas and tricks for those interested in Soviet, Russian and Eastern Block aviation.

The Tu-144 is a bit on the ugly side, and a complete rip off the British/French Concorde, thanks to extensive industrial spying (or is it the other way around?)!

Anyway the FS9 version by Thomas Ruth, Claudio Mussner, Dmitry Kolesnik (and many more) ports over to FSX almort 100% if you know how to deal with exotic file location... (tu144v2a.zip and tu144v2b.zip at Avsim).

From the readme file : "Tupolev TU-144 complete package 2.0 - Soviet supersonic passenger aircraft. First flight in 1968, two months before the western Concorde. Also known as "Concordski" or "Charger". Four versions included. Standard, improved and NASA version plus a never completed modernized version. New fully functional virtual cockpit, new 2D panel with INS, autoland and many other features. Many new customized XML animations. Sound files recorded on two different types of real running TU144 engines."

    Attachment 47345 Attachment 47347 Attachment 47366

    Attachment 47348 Attachment 47379 Attachment 47382

VC is clickable (2 versions) and there is a lot of eye candy and functionnalities, too much to list... FPS seems quite good for a port over, better than usual... Tom Ruth is definitely a genius...

Sean PM me if you need help with installing it in FSX...

Tu-154M and Tu-154B-2 by Project Tupolev

Tu-154B-2 by Project Tupolev ports over to FSX without too much efforts, but for the Tu-154M version 2.03, some panel textures and gauges don't show, so I tried the tricks used to fix the Falcon 50 VC and it works, but it's a long process to create these textures... More soon...

FSX Tu-154B-2: some engine gauges missing... should be easy to fix...

FSX Tu-154M: most gauges and panel texture missing...

Freeware Ilyushin IL-14 for FS2004 & FSX by Jens Kristensen

Project Tupolev Tu-154M for FSX... almost...

Ok the VC textures gauges were hidden inside a gauge... no need to build them for scratch! I swapped some incompatible gauge with default or XML gauges, at least to fill the void in the panel... I'm afraid I can't test all the russian systems... At least I can fly around in style!

    Attachment 47591 Attachment 47592 Attachment 47593

For the 2D wide panel, the bitmap is from the "Vitamin" Tu-154M. It's a very nice plane but with no VC (FPS are excellent with this version. No so good with the PT version).

    Attachment 47594 Attachment 47595 Attachment 47596

Project Tupolev stated many times they don't want FSX version of their Tu-154M floating around, and I respect that. My version is just for fun and for the good looks and to show it can be done! Maybe the systems works, but maybe they are completely wrong... Didn't find the switch for the ADI!!! I hope a real native FSX version will be popping somewhere soon enough...

Well, you could just post a rough how-to for those interested to mod the plane themselves.

No package or upload needed, no feelings hurt.

Sure! The file organization is the main clue here:

The texture.cfg in each repaint folder contains the usual code:

    Code:

    fallback.2=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
    fallback.3=..\..\..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
And here is the panel.cfg (lots of room for improvement of course):

Unless I'm blind Have you missed out the Tu-114 properly converted Samdim aircraft.

    On Simviation here - http://simviation.com/1/search?submi...14+fsx&x=0&y=0

And other Samdim aircraft too perhaps? - http://samdimdesign.free.fr/index.html

Over the years Samdim has made some excellent aircraft. I particularly like the little TU-124, and can only hopelessly wish that he would re-visit that nice little plane and create a VC for it..

    @vonstroheim,

Thanks very much for the extensive effort! I just got back from a trip, but I'll be sure to see how much works in the coming days.

    @Darren,

I'll take another look at it, but to my knowledge, SimV doesn't verify the accuracy of the "FSX-ready" statements, and this plane, along with many others there, was not adapted by the original author. I'll still take a look though!

    Update.

Unfortunately, the proposed fixes for the Tu-154 do not enable a realistic or safe flying experience. The flight engineer's panel is not visible or functional, and many systems did not cross over properly into the FSX environment, partially due to this.

Among the current, of many problems:

Unable to align nav systems (including attitude indicator).
    Electrical systems non-functional per manual.
Autopilot non-functional due in part to other systems.
Unable to engage initial start due to lack of FE panel accessibility.
Ctrl-E works now, which indicates that many systems have been disabled.
    etc, etc.

Looks like I'll just stick to the popular western types.

May see if it's possible to reinstall 2004 without messing up FSX in order to get these back.
