I wanted to see what a grey on the underside paint scheme would look like. While I was at it, I decided to have another look-see at the layout of the stripes, and the result are what you see here. I think it looks better than the original release. I've included both the new grey and original blue underside paint scheme with the revised stripes in the zip file.

I've had this one for yonks.....but these recent repaints got me all eager to mess with it some more....
Thought I'd see what 4096x4096 would do for it [there's only one 'real' skin image, anyway]....
Getting some lines back in.....vaguely close to the moving bits was 'interesting'.....
First a 'rework'..... [this is my 'thumbnail']....
....then more 'what if' in Camo..... [you never know]....![]()

Yes, it's a fun plane. I've rigged up a 2D pit from a cap of the VC [I like having both], added some burner effects [the built-in ones are a bit twee] and some smoke....always looks more fun with smoke.... hunting down some GE turbofan sounds and reworking skins at per-pixel level.
Ah, it's all fun....until someone gets hurt....![]()
Cheers

First one is a rework of Tommieboy's original....so I'd need consent to distribute.
[I am a site admin for a GUI skinning site [Wincustomize.com] so am conscious of Intellectual Property rights]
It also has 'nose-art' [bare boobs]...a Marilyn pose....also not mine to distribute.
The other one'd be OK...that's all mine.
Here's another....pulled some graphics off a F117....[not originally mine].....silly thing looks like a pair of jeans....;p

I'm not picky about what people do with my repaints, so go ahead and distribute when you are ready.....
But please do give credit to Tim "Piglet" Conrad (in your readme.txt file) for the original textures that we are basing our new textures on, as much of what we still see on our aircraft repaints, is his original texture work.

Thanks, Tommy ...
Re Tim's original/s I'd certainly include any and all references to source work/s....that's a given.
The increase to 4096 res gives me the chance to do a lot more in 'fine detail' 4 pixels per pixel ... so I still want to 'clean' up the colour boundaries...eg blue/white....red/white etc so zooming in can be more 'fun', but that's going to take 'some time', mostly because I didn't do enough of the linework in layers...so it's pixel-pushing-time.
Here's another shot ...bit newer. The air intakes look a bit like a 'shark' so I added eyes....
The graphic to the rear of the canopy is from the Aliens dropship ... "We Endanger Species" [always got a giggle out of that]. SQN badges are No.2 RAAF Amberley [it IS 'what if'] and RAAF, and the yellow linework around the canopy glass was a REAL PAIN as the model does horrible things to it in places, but at the graphic scale all sorts of text info can be added. I haven't really touched anything other than the main a12a-01 and its equivalent LM....
But....there's always more to do....![]()
I run Photoshop C5, and my CPU / system struggles to load / save 4096 res files. If I have to load a second file of that size to "cut and paste" between the files, it's simply not going to happen.....that takes the fun out of repainting for me.....
I run WinXP Home with 4 GB ram (3 GB usable); just not enough horsepower to keep up with the big boys....

Ah....GTX590 here and 12 gig of ram, SSD et al. Loading more than one image [PSP] isn't so much of an issue...but unlimited 'undos' soon sees things getting iffy....only because it's a small SSD [60gig]....stepping up to a 256 or so soon.
Spent the arvo 'cleaning' the borders between colour stripes....and now I'm not as happy with the panel lines....
Poor old DXTBmp has a hard time switching/loading 4096's .... but you can always reread War and Peace in the interim.
How did i forget about that one......
Yeah, that's pretty much the kiss of death on my rig; that is just a morale buster when you've got family breathing down your neck to get off of the computer, and you are just sitting there waiting for DXTBmp to do its thing on a 4096 file.....
I have started to save up for a new rig, but it will be over a year until I save up for something decent; I am going to finally retire my WinXP Home Edition and move onto Windows 7 64 bit at that point. Might just go back to FS2004 (the good old days) and save some bucks, time, and frustration.....
I should add that FSX runs just fine and smooth on my current rig; it's Photoshop that ruins the day.
