I have the XP emulator. In fact, I had it installed specifically because I wanted to be sure I could run CFS2. As it turns out, CFS2 runs better on Windows 7, 64 bit than it did on XP and won't run at all on the emulator (for me anyway).
I thought I'd be using the emulator for lots of my favorite programs, instead I am a dedicated convert to Win 7 and no longer use virtual XP.
I've been VERY time stressed settling my mother's final affairs, but now that I'm learning more about what it does and does not do, so far at least, I really like Windows 7. Except for the one problem with the mirrors, CFS2 runs very well, and I looking forward to downloading some of the great new add-ons and especially getting some of Rami's new campaigns. What I'd be using the emulator for are my old "Nostalgia" programs like the Jane's flight sims and Sid Mier's Gettysburg.

Hi there, an interesting question. The Windows XP mode in Win7 is a virtual machine.
It will not have access to hardware acceleration and will have to share RAM with the host system, so performance of Janes, Mig Alley etc. is likely to be just like it was on your old 486! very nostalgic! There are some ancillery flight sim programs that I understand will not run on Win7 64,( I don't have the 64 bit OS so I don't know for sure) but the XP virtual machine will certainly be useful for running those .
I haven't messed with it, Naismith. I've been getting my Rami Battle of Britain install put together. I've been taking my time with it, because I want it done right. If you haven't downloaded them already, I give any and all of FoxFour's Korean War packages my highest recommendations.

The biggest problem I have seen with running CFS2 (or any other games) in virtual machines is that they have little or no support for DirectX. This means that the games run very slowly or with very low graphics levels.

Two words:
Dual Boot.
Buy a cheap 1TB drive, put WindowsXP on it, and run all your old programs. Then place Windows 7 64-bit on the rest of the machine to run the future. I've seen the hard drives as cheap as $49 lately... so cheap your significant other won't even notice the money spent...
The virtual PC would be a waste of time and money.

Go to Simavation CFS2 Fourm. There you will see a post about Win7.Check pages 1 and 2,I think you will be interested in what you find. Please post some comments here because I am thinking about doing a rebuild of this pc and would like some suggestions and expeance figures before I start the rebuild. The reason I am doing the rebuild is to increase the FPS for CFS2 up to about 350 to 500 FPS in full screen if possible with all sliders wide open.

You have to understand the CFS2 AI inorder to command them.
Why walk when you can ride
It is not what CFS2 is doing but what it looks like it is doing that counts
Bob, you will need the latest hardware to get frame rate figures like that. The reason I am doing the rebuild is to increase the FPS for CFS2 up to about 350 to 500 FPS
I know Dirtman reports getting a max of 350 fps in his Vietnam install on his all new system.
