Made it to SCLB with nary an incident. Tracked significantly south-west-ish to avoid the big hills, but we didn't get lost because SCLB has a couple of radios to track and they were always in range.

Down safe at SLPO. We actually ran into some weather on this one. Nothing serious though. At one point I had a 32 knot tail wind, whoohoo!

Well, that 30 knot tail wind is now a 34 knot head wind, as I head for the coast. Mom always said there was no such thing as a free lunch. Glad I took on extra gas for this trip!

42 knot headwind. Ya know, that's significant when you're in a DC-2. have no idea where I am, basically. I'm headed northwest, which makes no sense, but is required due to terrain. I think I'm south of track, but not sure. At some point I should hit the coast. If I have he gas, that is. STENDECK, STENDECK...!

Wow, that was cool. Made it across the vast and desolate Atacama Desert, the driest place on Earth, to El Loa (SCCF). I didn't see any of those alien landing strips though. I was pretty buzy looking for the human landing strips anyway...

That's a wrap. That last leg was the most challenging to keep under the 17000 foot ceiling, as you can see from examining my meandering ways on the track. I was all over the place. Upon take off from SCCF it soon becam clear, as the terrain, as far as the eye could see north to south, rose steadily into a massive wall 20000 feet high. Pretty awesome sight. I went quite a ways south, and picked my way through the Fullugah Gap, then the Kasserine Pass, and finally the Kyber Pass. SASA is in a pretty valley, once you find your way there! A most excellent adventure was had by all!

Congratulations Paul!!! I did the virtual jumpseat thing using Google Earth live tracking on this leg and wondered how you were going to get through the high terrain. You went much further south than I did.

    Great Job

Waiting for you at the bar.

That mountain range is a nice trap indeed. Another laugh for the organisers (hey, you're one of them, right ).

Hehe, true, but I didn't plan or test the route first! If I had been smart, I would have looked at some of the successful last legs to see what was possible. Jeff, for example, went almost straight through! I guess there was some -17000 foot passes there. Sure didn't look like it when I was approaching it. Oh well. It was fun!
