    Clutch Cargo Andean Airways: Extras

We'll use this thread for extra materials and updates for the CC Andean Airways event.

Let's start with a Paul's map of the airports. (Red are required, Gold are optional.)

For those that would like to learn about NDB and VOR navigation. Or even if you just want a refresher....

I cobbled together a "VOR/ADF Nav Panel" for this event. Similar to the "ADF only" for the SWPAC race, this one includes a VOR radio and gauge.

I just tried your panel in FSX Paul but it doesn't appear to work for me (I just get an empty tiny black box in the bottom middle of the screen).

I did manage to get a couple of the gauges to work individually in my DC-4 VC though so thanks for that.

I was able to duplicate the black box in the center of the screen phenomenon, and that was if I didn't re-number the [WindowXX] section that I added to the panel.cfg file. I added the panel to the Alphasim T-28, after which the panel.cfg looks like this (added stuff in red):

Thanks for taking the time over this Paul but when I try that now I have some of the stuff but not all. Missing are the radios, AP and HSI. I can get the radios if I either move the ALPHA cab out our your folder and into the main panel folder or if I add 'gaugeXX=MRR_NavPanel\' to the front of the relevant lines. I assume your DC-3 cabs are in your main gauge folder as it appears to be calling the AP stuff from the default gauge location. Mine are still in the DC-3 folder which is why I am not seeing those. As to the HSI it appears that 'RR_nh_gauges' must be a cab file that is also in your main gauge folder as it is not with the download anywhere.

Just thought I'd let you know in case others were having similar difficulties.

I know what happened now (oops). Most of the gauges are in the folder included in the zip file, but they are not being referenced from there like they should be. Here's a new version, created after I've had coffee. This one has all the required gauges in the MRR_NavPanel folder (including the DC3 cab), and they are now referenced from that folder.

Thanks Paul that works just fine and dandy now.

    Notes on the Andes

We have prepared a set of "Notes on the Andes." Many of us do not know much about the places along the route. These notes compile many materials from Wikipedia and elsewhere on the web, along with a number of photographs, that might be helpful. The writing is dense--please do not try to read through the notes in one sitting. They might better provide a diversion for pilots flying those long legs...

You can download the 4mb file "CCAA Notes on the Andes.pdf" here:

Thanks for doing this Mike (and whoever else was involved). I just DL'd and scanned through it and it makes fascinating and very enjoyable reading. I learned a lot of things I didn't know before.

    Bravo!

    Thumbs up

A guided tour of the Andes !

    Excellent !

That really adds a to the interest of the event, enhancing the virtual travel aspect. That's what I love about these trips.

SOH events just get better and better.

    Thanks!

NOTAMS: Rules Clarification on Computer Glitches

A clarification of something we forgot to put into these rules. (We have written this into similar events. Simply forgot this time.)

If you have a computer glitch, you simply abort and explain in a posting. Then recommence the leg from the beginning and completely ignore the computer-marred flight. No time on the log book, no penalty incurred, nothing.

Thus, we treat a computer interruption just as we treat a family member's interruption. All on pilot's honor of course. This is meant to be a fun event--without the "edge" of the RTWR.

Great Ozzie has made up a very cool spread sheet that shows nav data for the airports in the sequence, as well as providing a means to keep track of your cargo stuff. You can download it here and check it out:
