    What Happened to Us?

Looking at the women in the Booker T video, I remember those good times and good friends and how hip and cool we all looked. Smoking cigarettes (?) and dancing.

Now, I have RVed full time for the past 11 years and now work in a 55+ resort. Those great looking chicks back in the 60's have turned into the grey haired grandmothers that live here. Our long hair has disappeared and is replaced with pink scalp. Those hippies from the summer of love have gotten old! Funny how time flies, your girlfriend from the 60's now looks like your Grandmother. Being a long time 60's rock guy I suffered when I started RV'ing 11 years ago, all they wanted to hear was Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Hank Williams. Now, they are requesting Beatles and other 60's music. Sitting around the camp fire playing my guitar has gotten fun again. The summer of love now sits with the older, gray-haired generation!

For you younger people, just wait....another 30-40 years and you'll know what I mean.

And, as you say, we may still sit around the campfire but this generation now has not only love - but wisdom and experience. Mix those three and you have a force to contend with !

I'm happy with my age, and getting happier each year. (maybe a little smarter, too !)

Yeah, but I have a real hard time thinking that one day Lady Ga-Ga will be considered a classic.

My favorite music is from the late 60's to the early 80's.

I was an original member of Black Oak Arkansas when they lived in...Black Oak Arkansas. Him Mangrum and Ricky Renolds were the only two original members who made it to the recording phase.

Loved that band (they were know as the "Knowbody Else" back then. Played lots of Byrds, Love, Dylan, Walker Brothers, etc. We were the only ones, except two others, in a 60 mile radius with long hair and believe me, the southern rednecks in that area didn't like it!

    Sure miss the 60's

The funny thing is when I posted the Booker T thread, I am almost 33 but I long to go back in time to the 60s, a time you all were lucky enough to be a part of. I find myself drawn to all that old rock, blues, funk, real jazz...not the poppy smooth stuff...the real Miles Davis/Coltrane abstract hipster style stuff. Music was so alive and vibrant, full of energy. No music of my 'generation' during my lifetime has ever really grabbed me, some of it might be fun for a little bit, but nothing long lasting like the good stuff from the past. I find it ironic and a little distasteful that Viagra is running commercials with Howlin Wolf in the background. Back in the Wolf's time, didn't need chemicals like that to get your heart and other things going, the awesome energy and passion of the music did that for you.

The good news is that I have seen quite a few younger teens getting into bands like the Beatles, old blues...etc. Hopefully that will inspire their generation of musicians to pursue music with their heart and soul and not their wallet.
