Virtavia C-17 Released

Unless I'm very much mistaken, here it is, after a very long gestation period:
http://www.virtavia.com/?page_id=373
Now to figure out how to upgrade the ALPHASIM model to the VC version...

Yes this is it.

Best bet on installing the new version is to uninstall the previous one. Save any repaints and associated cfg info from the previous release but otherwise treat it as all brand new.

I'd love to...but of course I have no Flight1 wrapper since I laid out NZ$80 2 years ago for it, to ALPHASIM.
I hope to get a good customer service response from Virtavia.

I don't suppose anyone is working on an Altus scheme?

I spotted a bunch of schemes at flightsim.com during recent testing and of course they still work. Not sure it there was an Altus bird in the mix though. I was mainly interesting in the Charleston scheme since we had several folks assigned or working there helping us with the project early on. Was very suprised that that scheme wasn't included but glad to see someone painted it. March Field is just up the road from me and is also where the FDE guy is assigned so that one made it in. Pierre did an awesome job on the textures.

Download a copy of the Virtavia C-17 from http://www.virtavia.com. Open a Support Ticket at Virtavia and provide your proof of purchase, your e-mail address and specify if you want FSX, FS9 or both. You will be sent an unlock key for it.

For Vista or Win7 remember to turn off User Acccount Control (UAC) using the Control Panel before you run the Flight1 EXE install file you have downloaded.

First Impressions

Not a bad place to be...
Line 18 of the startup procedure says if you really want to, <Ctrl>-E will do.
My kind of airplane.

Enough clickable VC bits to keep one interested - remember this is all about the VC, we have waited nearly two years after plonking down a very substantial amount of money for this.

So...no functional FMC, but a hint of one to come in the future.
Trust FS9 will not be forgotten, down the line.

EDIT: Some flying, it all comes back...this is a big fat fighter jet

and I love it...

Looks good, I'm waiting for their B-58 Hustler to go freeware.

Nice "short review", Charl!

As an eyewitness, watching it at Berlin Air Shows doing some terrific aerobatics, I can confirm the "big fat fighter jet".
Now just imagine how cute it would look in the old white SAC scheme instead of the boring dull grey...

Cheers,
Markus.
Captain Wild Bill Kelso: War nerves? Who said war nerves?
The Patron: I heard it on that radio there.

Well after rooting around Avsim and Flightsim, no joy on Altus aircraft. So when the repaints start again, I would like to ask for the "City of Altus" (93-0602) or "Spirit of Tuskegee Airmen" (97-0042). Thank you.

Thanks Markus, I have a little video taken at Whenuapai last year, where a lady gave us a very spirited display of her "big fat fighter jet"!
Found it:
The plane was bigger than I had thought, and a lot more manoeuvrable!
As to the grey, well us simmers want to see the plane, but I guess the guys flying them, don't...

Back to the model, one of the MFD screens allows you to see the aircraft configuration, great for people like me who leave the flaps hanging out, or worse, the speed brakes...

Usually things only go freeware when another has been released either by ourselves, or someone else.

And even then if the FS2004 version has been successfully ported over by folks who bought it, as happens here at SOH with a lot with group projects -- for example the Alphasim Lightnings -- it would be suicide to release the old one as freeware when you release a true FSX version. Doing so will kill potential sales.

These listed below are a few of the repaints from the v1 release that will work (they all should since there have been no changes in the texture mapping). These are of bases not included among the texture sets in the latest release. (zip file names are from flightsim.com)

Altus AFB - altus930602.zip
Charleston AFB - c17_77182v2.zip and charleston.zip
Dover AFB - dover66165.zip
Edwards AFB - edwards-c17.zip
Elmendorf AFB - 990169.zip
Travis AFB - 066154.zip and travis066156.zip
