Down safe at Munda.

Down in AYBK.
Quiet flight with good weather.
Bougainville Island. I don't know about you, but that name generates images of lazing in a deck chair on the beach with a Mai Tai the hand. And the beaches did look nice from the air. Off for some exploration.

Well, ya don't see these over The Slot every day! All the rest of the fighters are jealous now, of her good looks. Welcome to race teson1

Propliner = Proper Airliner
Yep!
But well, guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
After a few days on the beach left Bougainville behind, well relaxed, for an early morning flight to Rabaul.

Left Rabaul for Kavieng, but not without a tour of the Rabaul caldera, quite a fascinating place, forming a fantastic harbour, but source of grief for the inhabitants. 1937 volcans Tavurvur and Vulcan erupted, killing 500 people, eruptions continuing till 1943, till after the japanese took the island in 1942.
American bombers are said to have bombed Tavurvur in hope of triggering an eruption that would dislodge the japanese.
1994-97 Tavurvur erupted again, burying Rabaul in ash.

While the beaches and the snorkeling are said to be pretty good around here, I think I'll press on.
Ouch...
Down in Cape Gloucester. And it seems in one piece. At last what's the Duenna is saying...
NOT a nice landing !
I did come in very hot, and with a tight turn into the runway. Pretty much a greaser though. Congratulating myself... and then the plane did its own thing. Dropped the left wing and inexorably turned towards the escarpment to the right. And went over the edge. Just one thing to do - close the eyes and pray. Finally it came to standstill in a screeching sound of metal 20 ft belox the runway, and with the dust settled it did look in one piece. Will have to give it a thourough look over though.
Looks like the left gear may have collapsed, but most likely just a ground loop.

is it possible to have too much fun? ... Nope
Good Job mate!
Carry on ...

Arghh...
Well, the plane needed a look over.
But I should have been suspicious of the boy that presented himself as the local mechanic, and his "Yes Boss", "No problem Boss"...
At least taken the plane for a test flight.
That SOB wired the right brake pedal to the elevator, and the left brake pedal to the ailerons !
Quite unexpected behaviour after braking upon touchdown... braking was the equivalent to pushing the stick forward. And with the expected result - nosed over. Argh...
(I had just changed rudder pedal control from FS to FSUIPC yesterday. Despite having removed all axis entries for the rudder pedals in FS, FS reinserted the default controls with the results as described. Argh...)

I had to get back to CPG and have a word with that "mechanic". But from what people in Cape Gloucester told me, when seeing me get off the boat he'd decided he needed to visit his great-grandmother in the bush.
Coward.
New attempt after doubblechecking whether Rudder pedals are properly controlled.
Much better.
