Question A suggestion has been made...MTO scenery guide

    To all,

Captain Kurt and I spent about an hour last night trying to figure out why his coastlines in North Africa were not displaying properly. At the end of the discussion, which was successful, Captain Kurt suggested that I consider writing an MTO scenery guide due to the complexity of Jean Bomber's scenery installation in addition to Sander's files, and how it all fits together.

Is this something that would really be used by a lot of people? If it will be, I will most gladly modify my existing ETO install guide to work seamlessly in the Med.

I'll have to check if mine display properly. I followed installation instructions by the letter, so....but I think it's a good idea!

    Absolutely!...

Memory is a wonderful thing, if you have lots of it! Rami, I for one would welcome a guide.

There seems to be a big difference between JB's stuff and Bruno's. Of course, Bruno didn't have the advantage of newer stuff. Base scenery has improved as has the GSL.

Also, can we address these CTD's with Bruno's Malta scenery? If it's put in right and we still get crashes, then we've got us a real headache. I fear that the more complex the issue, the tougher it's gonna be to fix.....better to fix it first?

It's too bad that the ol' 'one size fits all' theory won't work in this case, and what with things happening so fast these days, things seem to be getting rather complicated.

Don't get me wrong. I love all this stuff. These guys have worked long and hard and have done terrific work!

    Cheers!

    Okay folks,

I have honored your requests, using the ETO guide as a base. For many ETO users, the first half of the document is identical to the ETO, the only difference is I uploaded the links to SOH.

I do my best to walk you through the installations of Malta and Gibraltar without driving you nuts. I'd really like some opinions on this, please. If you guys like it and it's clear enough, I will upload it permanently.

In the version uploaded at 11:50pm EST, I included a .pdf, description, and credits.

    Exclamation a suggestion....

.....would be to cut the SdC Eurw scenery to make a.e four lighter zips ,in state (91.54 Mo!) I can't download it ,that fail each time around 77% in my case .
I would install it completely ,I already have it installed for the Channel area but I've not the south part to do some exclude bgls to make the sceneries compatible without the double coasts, I've already done some (Baleares, Bizerte ..) but I need to do some more of them for the future plans.

    Jean Bomber,

That's actually a great suggestion! I will implement that later today.

Thanks Rami, these guides are great to set up installations, and will be still greater in a few years time, when we need to start from zero any of them (due to those nasty crashes we get from time to time in our computers) and we can't remember most of it .

    Older Missions and Campaigns

Guys, will this work as a base install for ALL Med campaigns and mission sets?.....including the older ones? Or, is this a setup for future stuff?

It should, more-or-less, work with everything Mediterranean.

Thanks Rami......I've got work to do.....Will take out my current Med 1, 2, & 3 and redo this way.

It seems to me that the best way to go about this for me is to pretty much redo most of my stuff. I've got a lot of installs, most with older scenery. I'm thinking in terms of a base install for PTO, MTO, ETO, Aleutians, and East Front. This will save me a lot of future hassles in setting new campaigns up.

    Cheers!

    Rami,

Is it worth including the Spanish Civil War in this guide?

There is a bit of overlap with Jean Bomber's pre-war Gibraltar scenery as well as his Spanish and Balearic Islands scenery/mesh.

There is also Jean's beta Corsica scenery which will apply to your upcoming Beaufighter campaign.

I'm of the same mind here. Perhaps it's better to do an 'old' basic and a 'new' basic, depending on how much work a guy wants to do. I find that some of the older campaigns, for example, are more frame-rate friendly on this old beast of mine.

Take for example, Maskrider's new airbases vs. older. They don't all use the same base stuff. As with the war, as time progressed, so did technology and equipment, so it is with CFS2. I don't see a way to reconcile the older stuff with the newer base scenery that's evolving. My problem being (speaking as a dinosaur here ), I don't want to leave the old stuff behind completely. Horns of a dilema, so to speak.

P.s. this link seems to be broken, Rami..... http://combatfs.homeip.net/cfs2coast.../LWM%20Scenery
