Thread: Must haves for a Battle of Britain install?

  1. #16

Just Flight did a nice CFS3 Battle of Britain Add-on

I don't know if it would be breaching their copyright at all, has anyone looked at converting the CFS3 missions over to CFS2, without attracting "Flak" from the CFS3 crew or Just Flight? If someone can provide some guidance will see what I can do, and would be more than happy if that is incorparated into the current CFS2 work by Rami.

If anyone is chasing reference material on the subject:-
The Battle of Britain Then and Now, Mk.V, After The Battle, Edited by Winston G. Ramsey,
ISBN 0 900913 46 0 (Just don't drop it on your foot if you obtain a copy !!!!!)
The Battle of Britain, The Greatest battle in the history of air warfare,
Richard Townsend Bickers, Salamander Books, ISBN 0 7302 0479 0
A Few of "The Few", Australians and the Battle of Britain, by Dennis Newton,
    Australian War Memorial, ISBN 0 642 14991 7

I'm not ready to play a campaign yet, but it feels good to be back! Planes and bases are great. Thanks to all the freeware developers!

    Hi Cees
It's like a flatten issue ,a conflict with the mesh..., that seems like if the flatten don't match with the polygon

Yes, I know JP. But am I the only one with the problem? Or could more people benefit from a fix?

    Question Reply...

    Cees,

It doesn't seem to happen to mine...did you happen to make sure in your advanced settings that your DEM settings and the terrain complexity level are set to very high and 100%, perspectively?

It looks fine in my install:

    Attachment 20777

Maybe rearranging the scenery: I have the Rhumbaflappy LOD7 mesh on top of the list and then all Aachim airfields.

Hi Cees. Jeez, I don't have an ETO install at the moment, but If I am remembering correctly, the fields blended in pretty good. Did you use Rami's ETO guide? It IS a lot of work, bud, but the rewards are worth it. The pros might have an easy fix for ya. Hang in there!

I guess all these models don't have lod models? My framerates are killin' It's a slideshow. My comp isn't that young, but I thought to have a ball on my machine. Must tweak a bit to get acceptable framerates...any suggestions for alternative planes?

    Cees,

FPS problems in BoB should be minimal, with a couple of exceptions. The Fiat Br-20 is a FPS killer in CFS2, as well as Thicko's Dornier Do-17 in large numbers. Everything else should be relatively okay.

If you're having problems, the first thing I'd do is to delete the exhaust effects from all of your BoB aircraft. While they look pretty, these are FPS killers in missions, no question about it.

For the Dornier Do-17, there's an alternative low-res model you can use. However, all of the aircraft which I selected for BoB are multi-lod.

    Drew,

What about the Lawdog sound files? Are these framerate killers too?

    Cees,

Nope. I've never had a problem there.
