Thanks, Dave! I just registered. I remember trying to get the big Lockheed twin into (and out of) some of those teeny tiny airports in them hills. This is going to be "interesting"...

SOH FC Hop List Shoot Out Reminder

Some times when these little events are announced too far in advance we tend to forget about them. This is just a little reminder that in two weeks we will be having the our Hop List Shoot Out Race.

I think I made the rules simple enough...

    • Bring your favorite P-38
    • Don't fly too high
    • Don't fly too low

It also helps if you register a landing at each airport on the list

Everyone is welcome so register soon.

Don't worry about your flying skills or as you may think lack there of. You will be in good company and that will make it worth the trip.

If you are not worried about your flying skills and you know you could dust all of the other competitors...

:icon_twi: … Come on over and let the Mayhem commence.

If you need assistance getting properly set up to fly in Multiplayer check out our How To Clinic thread. http://www.sim-outhouse.net/forum/sh...-How-to-Clinic

If you are interested but have not yet seen the rules you can find them here.

Trust me this is going to be a fun time.

    many thanks, Dave.
I'm on my way to register now,
then, I've got to go dust off
    my DCC P-38L Racer.
I like the Factory Fresh version.

Well, the race is over. Congratulations to MM, the race winner! I'm happy that “Flight 19” featured so prominently on the podium at the end. On the other hand, the other member of Flight 19 pulled a bit of a bone headed move. On only the second airport on the list, I made a perfect landing – with the wheels up! Obviously I thought I was still in the Fokker... Rather embarrassing to say the least. Overall the race was one of wholesale carnage, slaughter, mayhem and scrap "aluminium" sprinkeled across the once beautiful mountain slopes of Switzerland, as MM was the sole survivor, everyone else having been disqualified for one reason or another... Still it was a fun event. Thanks Dave for the hard work putting the event together. Here's some kodaks. The inflight shot was just after takeoff. The the P-38 landing is MM crossing the finish line and receiving the checkered flag.

I concur, congrats Mike and well done, Dave.

the only reason I was the last to be disqualified
was because I was slower off the mark.
    I haven't crashed a P-38 that much
since the Northern Latitudes Run last spring.
be that as it may, it is abundantly clear
that I need a heck of a lot of practice.

I got an email last night from the Swiss Minister of Digital Debris. Seems our wreckage of 1's and 0's clogged up one of their mountain streams and now with the recent rain fall threatens to flood a small town.

They are sending us a bill to clean up the mess and have in certain words asked us to never return.

Dang that was fun. I just really wish we could have had a closer race at the end. Of course i wish a couple of more guys could have made it to the trap set at LSAZ. The recycling crews were on hand to process the wreckage right there.

There was a lot learned and a lot left unanswered as a result of the results. I will make a full report when I have time so hopefully we can use some of it at a later time in another event.

For those who wanted a copy of the route here it is.

To duplicate the weather go into the user defined weather settings and go advanced.

Clouds set to Cumulus 4/8 Altitude 4500 to 10918.

Wind set to 20kts from 0 to 3231. Gusts 0. Direction 43 degrees. Turbulence none. Sheer gradual.

Winds aloft set to 46 kts top altitude 12,000. Gusts 8 Direction 270. Turbulence Light. Sheer Moderate

Temp and pressure leave at default

Visibility 20 miles just to give it little tighter feel then what you would have at unlimited. Its just as a little more character.

You should now be able to duplicate the race on your own time.

    //-----------------------------------------------------------------

I did not get as many screen shots as i wanted. For some reason MM was lagging around like crazy. He did not stay on screen long enough to get a good shot.

So I will leave you with this one.

    thanks Dave,
even though I attempted the run several times yesterday,
I was unable to complete it...DRAT!!!
and I didn't even have your weather settings
    for the latter attempts.
    just Clear as instructed.

after hearing a post Race conversation
    that mentioned the possibility
of the DCC Racer not having enough fuel
    to complete the Race,
I especially wanted to test that aspect.
    BUT, to no avail.
    them Mountains are a Beatch.
    (very nice addon scenery, BTW)

I am back to working on my cockpit switches and levers,
but plan on continuing with the scenario.
I DO NOT intend on giving up on this one.
    I love a good challenge.

The total course distance was 235 NM. Dcc's P-38 can easily make that with internal fuel only.

The racer is missing the tip tanks so it has 110 gals less fuel.

In my tests of the racer I would get to the slightly halfway point and have less than 50% fuel.

Any of the other variations will make it with out a problem. The racer model is going to be tight.

I am curious if it can be done and how close it gets.
