Wow! All of a sudden there's a P-61 in the works for FSX! Looks good.

All of the sudden isnt exactly the wording i would be using...
"If three-holers are gas guzzlers, why are there four-holers now???"
"But what do i know? I'm just the 800 pound guerrilla in the room."

Fire! Fire! Your pants better not be on fire....

The conversion to Gmax will have changed all the animations, the world axis in Gmax is different to Max so ailerons and rudders may be reversed, landing gear will amost certainly go to pot, looking at the gear in those images you can see that the oleos are missing, probably reverted back to x,y,z 0,0,0 in the scene mesh, ie they have lost there world axis and reverted back to 0, this is a common problem when transfering models between these two mediums.

I'd be interested to know how it was done from atechnical aspect, I didnt think models could go between these two mediums, certainly not Gmax to Max (with out serious mesh problems).

None the less, looking nice guys and yes Fligers FDE was pretty good by the numbers if I recall correctly.

    Best

To my knowledge "America's Hundred Thousand" is not available on line. Probably the best compilation of US WWII fighter data. For aircraft such as the P-61, handling notes are important. The handling info is probably mostly from the 1944 Fighter Conference, for which I also have the book.

Anyway lots of cockpit drawings, system info etc.

Perhaps the flight Dynamics I did could be improved, but they seem to be pretty close in my estimation. I'll dig them up later tioday. It's quite possible thta the contact points need to be reworked after the "conversion".

Thanks Fliger.. much appreciated.. Hope you wont mind too much if i use parts of yours and marry them with mine. Naturally you'll have full credit for it as part of the dynamics team.

I took this for a short test hop this morning. Note that it is a big heavy airplane, especially if all the tanks (including externals) are full.

A trait of the roll spoilers was that effectiveness of the roll varied (more or less) with the square of the speed. The result was the higher speed roll was fairly good, but low speed roll was mushy.

Well, she was fighter and handled like one at most speeds.

Thanks fliger.. much appreciated. yes, its true that she was big and heavy, but watching videos of her and doing stop watch timing from what i can get of the very few exterior shots, indicates she had slightly slower but very similar handling characteristics to the P-38.. bank rate should be about 90 degrees per second as opposed to the P-38s 120..
but, even a stopwatch test is subjective. I need to stick with the documentation as closely as i can get it.. The engine is actually turning out to be the difficult part.. There just isnt a lot of documentation on that version of it..
Your absolutely correct about the spoilers.. low speed handling was a major pain in the arse, while at high speeds she flew like a home sick angel..
I wish i could program in the recoil from all the artillery.. that much firepower had to slow the plane down some..

:::LOL::Guys.. Dont misunderstand fliger.. He did a wonderful job on the FDE.. I just took her up and except for a couple small difference ( and a much better thrust table in his ) fligers FdE flies exactly like mine..
Thanks fliger.. I know that if i put my numbers into it in the right places, between yoir work and my work we'll have nailed this flight model exactly good job ..
