Ya, they might as well be since they just put out a much nicer one to FSX even after the original plans for the new included FS9. Maybe this is a way to stop some of their faithful from being upset with Alphasim for that decision.

bit untypical for their freeware to include paintkits but it is a nice bonus for repainters like me

Thanks for the HU and thanks too to Alphasim, generous as ever. I bought this package when it was first released, as one of the T-34B schemes represents the actual aeroplane I flew in at Waynesville, Ohio in 1998.

Was pleased with it then and still there in my hangar today.

No flys on you guys. :costumes: Since it hasn't been in the catalog for some time releasing it as freeware is intended as a goodwill gesture to make up for the expected new FS9 version that was cancelled.

I uploaded it last night to Avsim, Flightsim, Simviation, and Sim-Outhouse. There are several repaints by Russel Smith available at avsim from the original release timeframe.

Downloaded earlier today, just got a little stick time. Made some personal mods to the prop animation, otherwise she's a very nice plane! Seems a little thirsty, but then I was at full throttle for most of my five minute test flight. That ate up 6% of my fuel though, so I may scale that back a little. I'll have to do some more testing at more reasonable speeds...

Have a great many AS aircraft in my hangars, both FSX and FS9. I did download this one and tried it but found it much more sluggish and underpowered than I would have expected for a Turbo Prop Trainer. This version doesn't seem to be any more powerful than the standard Mentor.

I checked the specs for the original Mentor which showed it was powered by a Continental flat six type engine producing 225hp and a max speed of 188mph. The Turbo version showed a Pratt & Whitney turbo prop that claimed to nearly double the hp and while they give no specs for the turbo, it would seem that the speed would have also increased as well, however on this latest release from AS (which is always appreciated and my criticisms should not dampen those feelings in any way) can only muster a top speed of slightly under 160kias which converts to 184.125mph or slightly less than the standard continental engine.

Anyway, a big thanks to AS for continuing to release some of their older versions for the FS9 folks. . .a great goodwill gesture and much appreciated.

My thoughts as well. Would someone who is thrilled with this latest release like to comment on it's lack of "get up n' go"?

Nope! Just like someone who tries to merge with the traffic that's going 65mph, but they take 5 miles to get up to speed and you're stuck behind them. . .that's kinda where this airplane falls, performance-wise. If I have to take 10 minutes to climb to 15k feet to test it. . . .it's not worth the effort, lol.

And once again. . .I am not bashing AS or their generosity, so anyone who wants to jump to their defense. . .get over it. I appreciate their efforts. . .I simply find this airplane lacking.

According to Jane's All the World's Aircraft for 1984-1985, the PT6A-25 on the T-34C was torque-limited to 400 shp (normally 715 shp) to extend engine life and provide constant performance over a wide range of temps and altitudes.

The performance numbers at a T-O weight of 4,210 lbs:
Vne = 280 kts
Max cruise @ 17,000' = 214 kts
Vx @ SL = 1,480 ft/min
T-O run = 1,155 ft
T-O run to 50' = 1,920 ft
Range with max fuel:
181 kts at 1000' = 427 nm
202 kts at 10,000' = 523 nm
180 kts at 20,000' = 708 nm

Does this fall within the experience of the AS T-34C fliers out there?
