RE: Two video clips of Hornets landing on the Nimitz

    Hi All,
As it's well known, landing on pitching carrier deck is one of the most stressful situations a pilot can go through. Especially at night. Here are two 10 minute video clips of Naval pilots describing their feelings what it's like to night land on a pitching, rolling carrier deck. Also included are clips of 'bolters' as well as a refueling done between one Hornet to another. You can feel the tension and the relief when the fighter lands safely aboard. Enjoy.
[Thank heavens for these men and women who do this on a daily basis]

Thanks for those, Brad. Two of the most outstanding flight videos I've seen all year.

I tended to agree with the pilot who had reservations about flying with the deck rocking and rolling as bad as it was. Required combat ops is one thing but just running the deck during a transit was kinda risky. Would be a bummer to lose a pilot for no other reason than getting your stats up before the end of the deployment. The Hornet guys didn't look too good trying to get aboard.

Screwing up one landing after another must be frustrating to no end. I'd curse like a drunk irish farmer if I was in the cockpit.

I like the way this documentary was made. No narration, only a little music.

    Top Gun 2. Plus. Wow.
Do you think this was a recruitment film?
It's professionally made, so would have Navy co-operation and approval.

Am still rather shocked that they nearly catapulted that one pour soul into the drink in the first video when the bow was falling fast. Yowza! Am agreeing with some in the video as well as here: that was unnecessary practice, highly dangerous & bordering on irresponsible to conduct such operations on an outrageously rolling ocean when it was not of critical importance. Someone wasn't thinking right, imo. Still, they are the most incredible flight videos I've seen in a long while.

Great video, now it makes me appreciate my branch of service even more. I really admire the guts those guys exhibit. I think I prefer being shot at as opposed to landing on a rolling deck.

Those are from the Discovery Special Carrier. They went aboard the Nimitz for a 6 month voyage. It was really good.
